Going Full Synthetic, is it 10W-30 or 5W-30, I'm leaning to Mobil1 or Quaker State, and is the oil over at Walmart the same as at a Motorcycle store?

Sorry, I know another thread about oil, but what can I say, I'm here now and there's also thos Rotella brand !!But it is 5W-40!!

Stay away from anything that says "energized protection", or "friction reduction", etc... They will cause problems with your clutch

Rotella is a label used by Shell, you see that name alot in Europe. The Rotella that Walmart sells is mostly for cars (I could be wrong.)

As a couple of other people pointed out, you want to find a motorcycle oil...most of them will state 4T somewhere on the label. That is for four-stoke engines, and is compatible with a bikes "wet clutch" which shares the same oil the engine is using.

For what it is worth...unless you are racing, almost every bike's Owners Manual will tell you what weight is recommended...and in most cases these days that is 10-40.

Go with a 10W-40. But don't use automotive oil.

I used Rottlea T 5w-40 In both of our bikes D675 and an R6 I also used it in my SV650, Works Great Shifts Super Smooth Bikes seam to love it!

Sounds like Walmart only sale Car oil, Nothing for Motorcycles, anyone know of a Motorcycle shop that is open on Monday being the 4th of July or maybe one of those automotive stores maybe? First time doing my own work to any vehicle so sorry for all the questions.

Most of the chain auto parts stores will have a couple of motorcycle (4T) oils on the shelves.

If you saw the post from Bueller, your capacity is 2.5 quarts. You will want to buy three quarts, but make sure you only put in the stated capacity...if you overfill it, it can mess up your oil-pressure.

I use nasty ole heavy duty diesel engine oil in all my bikes and have for years, Straight dino Rotella T 10-40 that I buy from checker or carquest. Don't put motorcycle oil in an engine (race or street) unless it is paid for by sponsors. I change it every 3k mi. or every 3rd track day.

You can find mobil1 4T and your filter at advanced in most cases. I've used it and used silcolean and my bike seems more quite and smoother on the shifts. I may just be lieing to myself to help stomach the cost. So let the shit talkin begain. Botom line my motor, my budget, my choice.

With the synthetic Mobil1 I'm doing oil changes every 6-7k, so the cost is negligible at that kinda mileage. I like the consistency I get with that oil. Feels the same fresh as it does "used up".

I use Valvoline Max Life exclusively. Why? Well, for starters, it's the only reasonably-priced oil with the ratings recommended for my bike ( API SF/SG if I remember correctly). All the other "special" motorcycle stuff (Amsoil, royal Purple, Motul, etc.) with those ratings (certain additives) are way too expensive and IMO a ripoff unless you're racing and need that extra 1/2hp at 14k RPM. It's semi-synthetic and very close to regular oil in price. I've got 55k miles on mine with zero problems, but I usually change it every 3k miles (or 5k if I let it slip).

The Rotella T 15W-40 does carry the JASO specification nowadays. I used it in my 650R all the while I had it. Never had any issues, and I could get that oil pretty much any day of the week at Walmart or Checker. As for filters, I've used the same ones recommended here (http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Consumables.html#OilFilters) for years without any issue. Most of the time I used the Purolator and Bosch filters, which also can be had at Checker (or O'reilly or whatever it's called now).

There are endless threads about this on pretty much every motorcycle forum that exists. The sum of all of them is that some people will use this stuff rather than something branded and marketed as being motorcycle specific, others are dead set against it.

All I can tell you is that it worked well for me and countless others. Your money, your bike, your choice. :)

Ok I snagged up some Mobil 1 "Racing 4-T" Full Synthetic10W-40 @ 10.00 a qt. I also picked up a K&N KN-204 @ 16.00 oil filter all from AutoZone,, thanks everyone! ;)

Not a bad choice either. The Mobil 4T is good stuff. :up:
