Ok, I am going to start doing some track days in preparation for getting my MRA license. The bike I will probably end up with is an SV650 that I once owned. It is a great handling bike and already safety wired and all that. My question is, what class would I be in and what kind of bikes will I be competing against?

any and all help is appreciated.

Also, this late in the game, how does one go about getting one's lic.?

thanks a ton

As a new racer you are eligible for both Novice classes (GTU & GTO) as well as both Amateur classes (also GTU & GTO), though you'll probably only want to do the GTU classes since they're limited to a maximum engine size of 640 cc's whereas GTO is unlimited displacement (unless your fast enough to hang with litre bikes, then rock on). You're also eligible for the Lightweight endurance on Saturdays. For a easy to understand definition on how the classes are broken down, check out the Glossary page on 4HorsemenRacing.net (http://www.4horsemenracing.net/).

As for getting your license, you can speak to Mark Schellinger, new rider director in the MRA (contact info is here (http://www.mra-racing.org/index.cfm?action=contact), near the bottom of the page). You can also take a class with Ricky Orlando (http://www.rickyorlando.com/).

Hope this helps! 8)

The SV650 is a great bike to race. As a novice you can
run LightWeight Endurance on Saturdays.
On Sunday there is SuperTwins GTU and GTO.
LightWeight GrandPrix is an expert class, but
Mark Schellinger the new rider rider director can
grant an exception to ride in LWGP, or after a few weekends
or 8 races I think you can move up to expert.
The Novice GTU/GTO classes weren't much fun for me on an SV,
giving up 50-100% HP is a disadvantage unless your name is
Dale Murphy, Dave Galant, or Mike Applehans.
Ricky Orland can get you certified (see prior posting)

Hope this helps.

Good luck and hope to see you out there soon!
