So I just ordered one of these (http://www.powerlet.com/product/cigarette-socket-battery-leads-standard-duty-10-amp/383) today. Anyone else hook one of these up to your bike, or have something similar?

It's identical to the plug that my battery tender uses. They aren't complex at all... just + and - connections to the battery.

I have one on my bike. I bought a < $10 weather insulated cigarette lighter plug, and reverse-wired it to an extra set of Battery Tender cables, so whenever I need it, I can connect it to the Battery Tender cable that's permanently connected to my battery.

I had a touratech lighter installed on my Duc. I've used it all summer to power the GPS. I also carry a small USB adapter for charging phones/ipods/whatever...

It's small, doesn't bounce around at all and it's worked great.

I have a couple of the smaller ones under the seat from the factory, but no larger power ports.

I put one on both my bikes. I put it on the front fairing and use it to charge my cell phone mostly.

I used a $10 all-weather outlet that I got from Wal-Mart. All you need is the outlet, a 1 inch hole saw drill bit, some wire, a fuse holder/fuse, some o-ends to attach to the battery and a soldering iron.

Believe it or not, its kind of hard to find. I picked up the first one pretty easily but ended up having to go to a few other stores to find a 2nd one. Make sure you get one with a full circle base. It has a large plastic nut that screws on from the bottom that actually secures it.

Installation is a bit like a dick in a box.

Step 1) Take the fairing (box)
Step 2) Cut a hole in that box
Step 3) Slip your outlet in the hole.
Step 4) Well, you get the idea.

Make sure that you place a fuse close to the battery. I think I also got this from Wal-Mart but Autozone probably carries them too. What I used has a wire running through the fuse holder and the fuse itself is inclosed with a rubber cap. (ie water proof).

To cut the hole, I used a hole saw drill bit (buy at Lowes/Home Depot). I believe it was a 1 inch. It fit the adapter perfectly.

Sweet. I may be driving a Uhaul out to one of our jobs in Utah, so I was going to trailer the bike behind and just ride it back. It'd be nice to have something to charge the GPS and my iPod if needed.

Wicky, I have that one on my bike. I have a little glove box that it sits in. Works well (although I think I have a short somewhere from crashing to much). I also got a little dual USB adapter that goes inside of it. That way I can run a GPS and ipod charger at the same time.

I have one of the single USB adapters for the car. Maybe I'll go grab one of the duals, just in case I need it.

Thanks man, but it seems pretty straight forward. I bought the 48", just in case I need the extra length.

It is. I originally just googled the mod and found a few step-by-step how to's.

The scary part is drilling the hole.

What size fuse did you use? I assume it was an inline buss-type fuse rather than a spade?

I have a 3 dc/1 usb port hub under my seat. Then wired a headphone extention under the fairing to the front of the seat. With the dc inverter I have i've been able to charge battery packs and laptops (pain on the back though)

I wired one up on my 98 but I wired it to the aux so its not on unless the bike is. works well when I am riding. However I am finding that when I stop I tend to leave my key on so it will charge my phone or ipod. one of these days its gonna run my battery dead I guess we will see

I know this is a bit of an old post to be adding my two cents to it. But I just installed one on my own bike a few weeks ago. It's pretty cheap and easy to do. all for around 15 dollars.

I used a 15 amp spade fuse (by spade I assume you mean the ones shaped like a 'U').

If you're installing in the fairing, this is the adapter you want to use (I ordered from Napa - $22)

http://www.jcwhitney.com/pickup-truck-bed-liner-power-outlets/p2019946.jcwx

If you're installing onto the frame and not drilling a hole in your fairing, use this one: (Wal-Mart carries them for $8)

http://www.jcwhitney.com/outside-mount-power-outlet/p2001706.jcwx

I ordered a second one from Napa, it will be here next week so I'll post up a how-to thread.
