since you are North - Purdre canyon may be interesting
It is a jog for me - but as I recall there is (the required) gas station at the opening to the canyon.

if it works - 10am ?

And I can usually keep up with anyone on the RSVR Factory...

I live in Superior and was hoping to find some people who wants to ride north of Boulder Canyons...

Here is a route I had in mind. http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Lefthand+Canyon+Dr&daddr=Indiana+Gulch+Rd+to:Nelson+St+to:CO-72+W+to:5th+Ave+to:CO-66+E%2FCO-7+E%2FUS-36+E%2FUte+Hwy+to:CO-7+E%2FUS-36+E%2FN+Foothills+Hwy&hl=en&sll=40.163658,-105.421371&sspn=0.445501,0.891953&geocode=FTZkZAId_YO5-Q%3BFco1YwIdOi62-Q%3BFXB_YwIdLiK2-Q%3BFdzkZAId8su2-Q%3BFfzDZQIdsq65-Q%3BFWGXZQIdBQW6-Q%3BFWVkZAIdyIS5-Q&vpsrc=0&mra=ls&t=h&z=12

I am game - just pick a time and place
I did a little canyon run today ( 140 miles) and the only bad spot
was the very bottom of Lee Hill road where it meets Left hand canyon
a sand washout

and many police as there was a bike race

just pick a place and time to meet

and I am game ....

ok so here is the story. two of us are riding up central city parkway....I'm not gonna lie We were booking pretty good. when I see the tail end of a central city cop car. we slow down to the speed limit and drive about 5 miles. he has by now noticed that there are motorcycles on "his road" so he turns around to wait for us. we pass him and he pulls out behind me. follws me 2 or 3 miles until he pulls me over for my licence plate not being mounted in the factory location. B.S. call if you ask me. anyway He asks me if I have an endorsment and I told him no....... Big ordeal with the DMV that I wont get into right now. anyway he says why are you riding. I said because I have a permit and am allowed to ride with a licenced rider..........who has now left because he didnt get pulled over with me. Whoops. Mr. Jesterbass21 you are allowed to come back to central city to go to court B.T.W. I am towing your bike and calling a tow company "not the normal blackhawk towing" but a tow company from idaho springs WHAT THE FUCK????? Are you kidding me? no sir I am not kidding you and you can walk the last 4 miles into central city to use a phone there since your cell phone is dead. I promise you if you hit central city parkway and even if you do the speed limit they will find a reason to pull you over. and if any of you meet a 6 foot one black male police officer his name is melvin even though its just an m on his card. He is a Lazy no good cop that has a hard on for sportbikes. Got good video of his lazy ass parking in a no parking area to go inside and grab a bite to eat though if anyone wants to see it!!!!! its all because we broke from the guy with the bell on his bike lol

One of our guys got a ticket in Central City last weekend too. Turns out the cop was about to go off duty and we flew past his relief coming into town, who called ahead.

The speed limit is 45 yet its two very wide lanes in each direction. It really outta be at least 65 if you ask me.

It sounds like he knew (or assumed) you were hauling ass and then looked for any reason (probable cause) to pull you over. So after he impounded your bike he made you walk the last 4 miles into town? He didn't at least offer you a ride?

I always wondered what the penalty is for riding without the 'M' endorsement. I didn't realize it was an impound. What's holding you back from taking the test?

Jesterbass21
Mon Sep 19th, 2011, 08:14 AM
I took the test. when I renewed my licence the stupid DMV didnt put the endorsment back on. so now I have to go do it again. and the "penalty" for riding without the "m" is a 30 dollar fine. lol seriously thats all it ever is. and he had no idea we were speeding he was pretty far away when I noticed his cop car. and he didnt notice us at that point. When I said Sir I am confused why you would pull me over. I wasn't speeding or doing anything dumb I am just trying to get home he said, "I pulled you over cuz your plate isn't supposed to go there. I know where its supposed to go" I didnt even argue when he said that lol

Sully
Mon Sep 19th, 2011, 08:43 AM
Sucks that you got pulled over and your bike towed...

IMO.. don't give them a reason to pull you over. Mount your plate properly instead of tucked under your seat or some other place that isn't visible. This makes them think you have something to hide or that you like to run from the police.

A nicer cop could have let someone with an endorsement ride your bike off... Basically they just cant let you because, well, now they know you dont have the mighty "M".

Funny little story about Mr. Melvin. A few weeks ago I was up on the hill. When I went to leave I held the door open for the person behind me to just have them walk through it, probably one of my biggest peeves. I didnt look back before I said "your welcome" to the prick and when I did turn around it was MELVIN! He was on his phone but I could tell that he wanted to say something to me... Lol.

I once heard a rumor, while living in another state btw, that a cop couldn't tail you that far and then pull you over. Was told it was a form of entrapment or harassment. I don't know shit about the truth of the matter, just a rumor I've never been able, or needed to, substantiate :silly:

hmm maybe you didnt read the post. I was told last week by the DMV that I do not have an endorsment I have a permit. Please please please tell me your gonna tell someone not to ride with a permit. I was riding with a licenced rider he just didnt stop. shouldnt have been a problem. and my plate is in plain view and lit. so no it wasnt murphys law it was someone having a hardon for sport bikes. unfortunatly that is, what it is, a rumor. a cop can follow you as long as he deems necessary. however as you and most people know they can find any reason to pull over someone.

Lol enhance your calm John Spartan! I wasnt trying to be a dick about your unfortunate situation. But since you seem to be adamant that you were an innocent victim, why not just fight it in court? Surely you'll win, right?

And "someone having a hardon for sportbikes" qualifies as Murphy's Law.

I suppose I was lucky, me and my group rode our sportbikes right through Central City Sunday and passed 3 cops and none of us got messed with. Granted we werent hauling ass either, that might've had something to do with it.

Ive never had a Colorado permit, my endorsement carried over from my home state. But if permit regulations say you have to be with a licensed rider, you should probably tell your riding partner that they should stick with you especially if you get pulled over. If they won't do that, then you're gonna keep having this problem.

Sorry you got taken down by the LEOs.

Jesterbass21
Mon Sep 19th, 2011, 11:39 AM
no biggie. I am not gonna fight it I will take my lashings. pay my fine and stay away from there. I just wanted to post a warning. the towns people of central city say the judge has something to prove so I will take what he gives me without fighting.

^^^ that

Like I said, you should definitely get vocal about the fact that you're restricted by your permit and may need to prove that you aren't riding alone. If you're going to be speeding and no one is willing to go down with you, might be time to find a slower group til that endorsement gets worked out. I wouldn't want to risk it, especially in Central City. Seems clear that the LEOs there arent exactly flexible.

Any PD west of Lakewood is going to be like this. Bored cops are the worst. And how much action do you think Central City cops really get besides hauling irate drunks out of casinos?

well instead of pulling me over for an improperly mounted plate he could have pulled over 7 cars doing over 60 in a 35. I was pulled over right before the speed limit sign with the numbers flashing on it so I counted.

You were hauling ass. You caught up to him. ANY moron would be able to figure out you were ripping up the road when he sees you in his rearview. Don't fool yourself.

It kills me how this is the cops fault.

he didnt see us in his rearview. lol and I promise you he was such a dick he definatly woulda said something about going to fast to me. He even stooped as low to say I dont think led lighting is legal on these either. thats when I told him its probably a good thing I dont have them on then lol. he was being a dick man thats all there is to it. but whatever. You dont want my warning fine don't take it lol erase it from your mind.
To be honest with you if he woulda said sir you were speeding on the parkway or something like that I probably wouldnt be on here bitching but he didnt. thats all there is to it. It is true that its my fault I havent gotten the DMV to fix their mistake yet and its my fault I didnt let people know that on the ride. But compassion is something some people in this world are missing and he did not have to be that big of a DICK!

Oh I see. So now the problem is that he was being a dick...

And I thought you were pissed he was citing people for stupid shit...like riding without a proper license. It's all clear now, thanks!

In Vegas to ride with us u have to have ur (M)endorsement, Insurance, Proper Gear: NO Squid Attire!!! Sure there are times someone doesn't have it but they usually let us know, or their experience on the bike. We have pulled a "Squid Donation Fund" even to help out if people couldn't afford it. We encourage them to take the MSF class also. In ur defense, I thought we had a pretty good day. Nothing to crazy and at a good safe pace. Cant speak for when I wasn't there. All I know is I wanted to ride it again.....

This story is a lot like I hear in the ER from so many "victims" of assault. "I wasn't doing anything just walking down the street minding my own business and they just stopped and started beating me!"

in his defense we just met that morning. and I understand. its not his fault at all and I should have said something but seriously there was no reason to be pulled over. that is my point. no reason and my bike was impounded where about an hour earlier there was a reason to be pulled over we did and the cop let us go. This economy has everything fucked up and to be honest I am seeing alot more of this, pull people over for stupid little shit, going on

I take responsibility -if you had mentioned you only had a permit I would have never left your side ....
and we would have done the speed limit....

I had to head home and we were doing the speed limit so I thought you were all good ....let me know if I can help with rides or anything

A friend had a similar situation in Central City ( I was not with him ) and the hassle was unbelievable

lol. you are an ER nurse how would you know what its like? you have already admitted that cops dont ticket you because you are an ER nurse. I am sorry but that makes me laugh.

and I have seen video of Cops grabbing someone off the street and beating them to death because they "thought" he had stolen something from a car. Cmon that was a nonsence traffic stop

What I am saying was it was a B.S. traffic stop that caused this. and most other cops would have at worst written me a 35 dollar ticket
I am saying be extremely careful in Central city because the cop "melvin" is a douche bag. I rode with 8 guys that day. most of them you could see my plate better than theres.

Did I miss something? Since when do you need to be accompanied by a licenced rider when you have a motorcycle permit? You can't have a passenger, but you can be alone, as far as I know.

Negative.

(c) Any person of the age of sixteen years or more who, except for such applicant's lack of instruction in operating a motorcycle or motor-driven cycle, would otherwise be qualified to obtain a driver's license under this article to drive a motorcycle or motor-driven cycle may apply for a temporary instruction permit, pursuant to sections 42-2-107 and 42-2-108. The department shall issue such permit entitling the applicant, while having such permit in such applicant's immediate possession, to drive a motorcycle or motor-driven cycle upon the highways for a period of six months while under the immediate supervision of a licensed driver, twenty-one years of age or over, authorized under this article to drive a motorcycle or motor-driven cycle.
