A week ago went down to Pueblo Motorsports Park for their Friday night test n tune. Actual track elevation is 4900feet. Bike is my 2000 ZX12R with these mods: lowered (middle hole in links, .5" through triple clamp), hindle pipe, PC3USB, BMC Race air filters, BEAR Racing short velocity stacks, 16/44 gearing.

My best run ended up being 10.22 @ 140.05....

Now I'm not a huge fan of correction calculators, but to give you an idea... Density Altitude was 5983feet. Sea level correction shows a 9.461 @ 151.2 mph. Close to my personal best of 9.50 @ 150 out in Maryland with super cool air and before a few of the mods I have now.

Fast forward a week... Went out to Bandimere Speedway in Denver today for their all bike/atv/snow mobile challenge. Only change to the bike was switched my gearing to 16/46 to help get out of the hole. At Pueblo a week ago, I wasn't able to sixty foot very well, bike just wanted to bog real bag. The change in gearing helped some, but I'm thinking I'm still going to go deeper on it. It's very hard to launch up here at elevation. Actual track elevation at Bandimere is 5800feet.

My best run ended up being 10.17 @ 139.93...

Density Altitude time of my run was 7049feet. Corrected to sea level shows a 9.277 @ 153.1 mph. Definitely an improvement compared to my runs a week ago. I'm going to try and gear it deeper, then start doing some weight savings such as ZX10r rims, to see if I can squeak in a 9.9x here at Mile High elevation.

Congrats on the awesome times. I know you were chasing the 9's like I was in Pueblo. You are so close, I think if you get a good 60' or we have some good air as we get further into fall you will get into the 9's. Are you running a air shifter?

Nope no air shifter. All my mods are listed above. I have no more then $1000 in this bike, bought most of my stuff used.

I'm going to try +1 on the rear sprocket, and good air. I think those might get me into the 9s at Bandimere. I've got a few other weight saving things I'm going to do this winder. Single caliper/rotor up front, zx10R wheels, and then also some less resistant wheel bearings.

An air shifter will save you about a 1/10 in the quarter mile as you can shift at wide open throttle without having to engage the clutch and lose rpms. The single caliper rotor is not a good idea especially going that fast, for the few ounces that will save you, it wont make a difference in your E.T but is a huge safety factor trying to slow down your bike from 140 mph. Try only running 1 gallon of gas in your tank. Fuel weighs about 5-6 lbs per gallon and will most likely save you more weight than the wheels and caliper put together. The wheel bearings are also not worth the $ spent vs. the performance gain as its not noticeable. Just FYI, for every tenth you save on your 60 foot time, is good for about 2 tenths off your ET at the end of the track. Good luck

Ya an air shifter would be nice, I'll probably get one eventually. Also considered the Dynojet quickshifter. Still have to footshift, but you can do it at WOT and it plugs into the powercommander. So your time off throttle is in milliseconds compared to rolling off the throttle by hand. It's cheaper then a full air shifter setup.

The single caliper/rotor on a 12r saves pounds, not ounces. The 12r comes with 6 piston calipers. I've talked to a few guys, who normally do 200+mph land speed racing, and they have said the single brake is no problem. Just don't get stupid while riding in traffic, as obviously your braking power is reduced.

I had only a gallon or so during my runs there at Bandimere on Sunday, all ready on top of that weight saving.

I want to try some new bearings if/when I do the zx10r rim swap. There is some gain to be had with bearings, withOUT having to go with ceramic. Every little bit helps. Check out this video... these bearings are less then $25/each....

Everyone has to try and see what works for them I hope you get there. Just remember if you are going to be taking that much weight off the front end, than it can actually hurt your performance as it will be more prone to wheelies. A lot of drag racers actually add weight to the front end like the Brocks Brick and get faster ET's as they can launch alot harder without wheeling. Also the land speed guys have alot more room to slow down than you do at a drag strip so you need all the stopping power you can get.

Good luck and stay safe.

Nice! I'm pretty sure that was my best pass of the day too in the left lane .

Yep! I should be able to squeeze a 9 here before I leave. Did a few things to drop some weight, and geared it even taller. Should get me there.

Have you considered dieting and exercising to lose weight? :) lol body weight over safety.

I'm only 165 as is. I've cut to under 160 for fighting before.

Nothing really "unsafe" about swapping to a single rotor. I've talked to many people who have done it, no issues. Granted, I'll find out soon enough, plan to do mine end of this month.

So far I've done the Ballistic lithium ion battery which saved almost 10 pounds. About to do the ZX10R rims which will save 9 pounds. Removed a few other misc stuff like bar ends, and passenger pegs, so about a pound there. Maybe be 25lbs lighter if all goes well.
