I'm curious to find out what, in your opinions, are your favorite carving roads that are relatively close to the Colorado Springs area?

Depends on your definition of relatively close. Deckers, horse power hill (hwy 126) to 285 are great, close and rarely patrolled.

Going further north take 285 to Evergreen via Indian Hills.

North still hwy 119 / peak to peak and highway 7 to Lyons are all great.

Hwy 50 is one of my favorites. Canyon city to Salida on 50 is lots of fun.

149 to south fork is pretty good.

The best thing to do is to pull up Colorado springs on Mapquest or google maps and look to the west for curvy roads.

You can also buy the new book, the compete guide to motorcycling Colorado, which is authored by an esteemed CSC member.

Thanks very much for the ride ideas, I definitely want to get some more rides in while the weather holds out. I think I'll try the ride to Cripple Creek on Saturday. :)

*edit: Where can I find the guide, I'm always glad to support members of the club where I can.

*2nd edit: After reading another thread about favorite roads, I can understand your reservations about offering that information. Too much traffic (and noobs like myself) can potentially ruin an enjoyable ride. I'll take what suggestions have been offered and keep my eyes peeled for an invite one of these days. I'll probably be at the back of the pack with my skill level and stock Dunlop d220s, but I'd much prefer riding with a group than riding solo. I guess I'm a fan of the best journeys being the ones that are shared. :) On another note I've ridden three of those routes already, namely Boulder Canyon to Nederland, P2P up to Estes and down Poudre. I've also ridden 50 to Salida, and the 67 to Deckers and the 126 to the 285. Each were outstandingly fun rides to take. Only downside, and a small one at that, was riding them solo (except for the Boulder trip).

Drano, There are many sweet riding roads not far from you. If you head to Cripple Creek, be sure to ride the four miles on CO 67 between Cripple Creek and Victor... on the very short list of one of the funnest four mile stretches in the state.

Take a look at the map here...

Note CO 67 between Cripple Creek and Victor. I've also highlighted the great High Park Road. A true rider's road. Lonely, sweeping, curving, up and down. Repeat.

Clovis kindly noted the book in my sig.

Thanks for noting those roads for me, I'll assuredly ride them this Saturday. And thanks for the link to your book, it's ordered now.

Note CO 67 between Cripple Creek and Victor.

One small addition... go south from Divide, then turn left on Lazy S Ranch road and go the back way to Victor. There's an enormously fun sweeper on that section of road.

Watch your speed on 24 between Colorado Springs and Woodlan Park and on 115 heading south from Colorado Springs. Both those roads are heavily patrolled.
