Date set: December 4th

Thanks Joe

Registration has begun at Mile High Harley (I-70 and Airport).
I'll post up within a week to pass along any special instructions.
(In the past, you've had to walk in backwards, while whistling "God Bless America" and whisper the secret word)

Form can be found HERE (http://www.milehigh-harley.com/events/2011-Toy-Run/Toy-Run-Wishlist.doc).
Toy suggestions areHERE (http://www.milehigh-harley.com/events/2011-Toy-Run/Toy-Run-EVENT-RELEASE-FORM.doc).

A common question is "How much/many?"
My best answer is no matter how much you bring, you'll bring more the next year.

So far, dealerships registering riders:

salsashark
Thu Oct 20th, 2011, 06:40 AM
^^ Those who want, usually meet up for breakfast at the Village Inn on Hampden and Tower around 8. Gather up and ride to the park around 9 (this year we'll try not to leave anyone).. Official "ride" starts at 11.

This is all dependent upon the official ride plans, but if I were a betting man I'd assume it will be the same as the last three years.

My best answer is no matter how much you bring, you'll bring more the next year.

One request at Village Inn: I don't think we need to all sit at one-60ft-long-table. It makes it hard to store gear and hard on the wait staff. I say just grab a table as you come in, and if we stay in the same half of the restaurant we will be able to shoot-the-shit and handle checks even easier.

I look forward to seeing everybody there.

They're not doing bandannas or arm bands this year. The lady handed me a small red dot sticker and told me to stick it on the headlight.

I'm not exactly jazzed about getting the glue off, but it's one day and for a good cause.

Walked in, dropped it off, walked out.

I highly doubt there will be any issue registering by proxy.

So what's the deal with meeting in the morning? I may have up to 5 other people joining me, so we might just do a northie breakfast and then try to meet down south as it warms up a little? I guess it all depends. Would any other northies want to do that too? Or should we just take over an entire VI down south?

What is the normal plan? Meeting at a VI...somewhere? At 8:00am?

Is there a website with the original meeting spot, route and times of events?

salsashark
Thu Nov 10th, 2011, 09:25 AM
I've been waiting for HD details, but they seem to be a bit vague this year.

The official ride meeting spot is in the Aurora Sports Park (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=39.736898,-104.763566&spn=0.012557,0.023882&t=w&z=16&vpsrc=6). It's more of a parade than a ride since the route is straight down colfax (at 20mph or so) to Children's Hospital.

Reason for wanting everyone to preregister and meetup to ride down is that once your in the queue for the ride, it gets pretty packed and if the group gets separated, it will stay separated. This is why we do breakfast before, so we can arrive as a group.

If you want to meet up for just the ride, meet up at the Village Inn on Tower and Hampden at or around nine. KSU @ 9:30. There's a very large (and empty) parking lot right outside that we'll muster in before heading to the Aurora Sports Park. There's a 7-11 in the same shopping center in case anyone needs gas.

I put this together to show where everything is. Hope it helps (Googly map (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=204846259027392714926.0004b163b410220087b1 c&msa=0&ll=39.699161,-104.756605&spn=0.100511,0.191059))

Registered at MHHD last night.
I didn't need to show ID, and my daughter didn't need to be there.
They gave me 2 red 1/2" dot stickers, and that was it.
(The same kind I use at work, so I might bring a few extra to VI... Just in case)
This has been the least painful registration for quite a few years.

Joe, if you can bring some extra dots, that would be great. I asked the receptionist at Sun HD and she didn't know anything about it. She gave me some LawTigers cards and said they are to get into the after party. They didn't have a lot of info on the ride itself.

So do you need the sticker to go on the ride or.... I have not done this so i am not sure how it works.

salsashark
Mon Nov 14th, 2011, 04:12 PM
In years past, they have handed out bandanas or arm bands or something to signify that you had pre-registered and signed the liability release form. You could always register there, but with thousand of bikes showing up, it's a mess. And yes, they stop people on the way in to the staging area to check. If you didn't have the "whatever", they would direct you to registration area. If you're with a big group, you just got separated.

SOOOO... this year, they hand me a little red sticker to put on my headlight to signify that I had pre-registered. I'm fairly confident that this could be a cluster^&*$ with different dealerships doing different things, but in the end it's about the kids and the Children's Hospital.

If someone wants to bring some extra dots, please do so. However, if you can, don't rely on them and go register. It helps with the counts and it's really not that hard.

This should do it.

OF COURSE ...
This will be for the people who register and the dot(s) accidentally fall off on the way to Village Inn.

I don't believe I am cheating anybody by doing this, and if it encourages more people to show up...

IIRC cars were slotted way at the back, so chances of us arriving same time as the CSC group may be slim. May figure something out though.

Awww, I'm jealous.... I want a cool sticker like that!
All I got was this lousy red dot.

I kept my bandana from last year, and the orange arm band from the year before, and I would HAPPILY pay $10 to cover the cost of another souvenir like that. Maybe I'll talk to someone at the HD dealership, because you know they really respect the opinion of a nerd on a dirtbike.

One other hint for all you newbs...
I used to make fun of those Harley guys with the Event Patches and Event Pins on their leather vests, but then I realized that at some point in my life I might want help in remembering all of these events, so I started getting those event pins whenever I could. They are stuck in a corkboard right now, but someday I'll have that gut worthy of a Harley and a leather vest, and I'll transfer them over.

Then I'll look REALLY cool.

They're $5 each. They usually have left over pins from previous runs you can still buy. I purchased the one for this year and got one from 03' for free.

its not a stupid question. years prior they said stuffed animals were fine but they have decided to tell everyone that went to rocky mountain that stuffed animals are NOT ok. i was curious as to why they are not ok and she exclaimed that a lot of kids love touching stuffed animals in the stores and if they are sick, the germs can be passed on from by the stuffed animal. it makes sense but i think that sucks!

Yeah, but forecasting another ~3" on Saturday, I'm not so sure the roads will be great by Sunday AM since it will be far too cold to melt anything. It's looking more and more like we'll be caging it. I take certain risks by myself but having my wife on the back, I'm going to be a lot more cautious about the conditions. We'll see though, weather forecasts are wrong a lot of the time.

You may want to give them a call and make sure it's ok to bring your bike. I was registering at Rocky Mountain Harley Davidson today and the lady at the sign up booth said that due to the conditions there weren't allowing bikes, but I wasn't sure if she was joking and I didn't really question what she said because I was planning on driving anyways. They still had me fill out the waiver and said that the plan was still to have everyone meet up at the park. I had a nephew who was born prematurely and he spent his very short life in the NICU at Children's. The amount of care and attention paid to my nephew, sister and family was second to none. The staff made a profound impact on my family and I will remember them forever. While I had made previous toy runs, they never really hit home until this happened. My first run after this was very difficult. My knees got shaky walking up to the hospital. Every year it gets easier... and more important to me to make this event. It seems trivial to drop a couple of toys off, but it means so much to those kids, their families and the staff of the hospital.

Just know that the effort you made will brighten those childrens' lives, and if even for a minute, allow them to be children... not patients.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss bro :(, the staff at the Children's Hospital has always been great and just helpful in every sense of the word. I sure hope God has nothing but blessings for their kindness and love which they spread through the families and little ones during their hard journeys..... No doubt man, every bit helps for sure and just I am truly glad to be part of this awesome and noble cause for the 5th year straight and many more hopefully to make their holiday season a bit sweeter though the hardships... The little ones and their families being so tough, perseverant but most importantly never loosing faith, it's just such an inspiration and the role models they are which just definitely makes me be thankful of my life, appreciate the important things in it and complaint less... I'd like to volunteer at the hospital one day when I do find the time to do so hopefully soon.
