I can’t find anything other than the Distanzia for a more dirt oriented sumo tire. Dunlop, Bridgestone, Michelin, Pirelli…nothing for my 17 inch wheels. I read a six page thread re the Avon’s on ADV. Most like them, a lot complain about tread life, a few hate ‘em. The guys complaining about mileage are usually on a fully loaded adv touring bike…well, duh. My DRZ is around 260 dry and I’m a buck 20 with gear, so I’m more concerned about grip on dirt roads than mileage. The old Conti Attack takeoffs I’m running now are slick even on dry pavement. What you guys got?

Sew up vagina. Ride street tires. Good enough for the vast majority of Rampart.

Next?

Distanzias suck because they are crappy on asphalt and the do next to nothing more on dirt than normal street tires. I ran race takeoffs including slicks @ Rampart and elsewhere and they did just as well as anything short of full knobbies.

We put the MT60's on Angela's Versys (front MT60, back Anakee II) and it's handled pretty well. it was a toss up between the Distanzia and MT60, I'm pretty happy with the route we went. Sticks well on pavement and gets around in the dirt pretty well too. The only place it sucked was sand. The Distanzia's look similar to the Anakee II, only the tread is less deep. It should be a solid tire.

Thanks, Sean. I'll look into the MT60 and Anakee.

On my ADVStrom I run a Shinko 705 in the rear.
I know, I know, Shinko???
This thing flat hooks up on gravel roads. They look kinda weak for a dirt tire, but for some reason they work. I was skeptical until I put them on.
They run about $100 for a 150/70/17 but it lasted my whole trip thru Mexico, 6000 miles, plus another 2500 here at home. I am not easy on tires.
I agree on the Pirelli MT60 for the front. It wont last as long but I prefer a more aggressive front, I would rather the rear slide than the front anyday.

MT60 front, a world of choices in the rear (maybe Kenda K761?)

Yeah, would be nice but I'd need wheels with hubs and rotors, all spacers and front brake hanger. And after all the trouble I went to get the 17's to fit, just rather go with some diff tires. Really, just looking for more grip on dirt roads than sport rubber. I've got the ring ding with knobs for trail rides. The ContiEscape looks nice but does not come in sumo sizes. The MT60 front with Bash's Shinko on the rear looks good, or the Avon's in the sumo size and compound. I want a 150 rear to help keep it off the muffler, will prob still rub some but not as much as my current 160.

I just don't get why you want to measurably fuck up street performance to get no appreciable performance gain on dirt roads. But then again what the hell do I know.

MT60 can hold a solid pace in the canyons. And at least with it on front, Angela's tire has lasted a while and worn very well.

Got the Conti Attack SM tires. Only one short ride but they stick like glue compared to my former takeoffs. I'll post up a review after more miles.

Your fast, which means you did some dumb stuff for the sake of learning
AND
Your old, so you survived it and remained on two wheels.

Advantage, Bueller.

Maybe if you let people sit on your front lawn while you educate them they would listen?

Conti TKC 80s now available in a 120/70 front, 130/80 or 150/70 rear...

BTW, your dirt tires are ready. :hibye:

I have been looking at these as well. I'd really be interested on the milage you get and how they fair at IMI. I just slapped on a Pilot Road 2 on the rear of my Drz. It seems to be sticking way better than I thought and no signs of wear thus far. About 1000 miles so far. Keep us posted.
