DES MOINES, Iowa (CNN/WHO) - Meet Tipper and Skipper, or as animal sanctuary volunteers call them, the "bag kittens." They were sealed into a bag, dumped on the road and hit by oncoming traffic.

"It was quite gruesome, it was quite gruesome because the other kittens, there was a litter of four or five, but you really couldn't tell if it was two or three, but they had been run over by the vehicle so it was not a pretty sight," said Linda Blakely with the Raccoon Valley Animal Sanctuary.

It is a miracle Tipper and Skipper survived. But that's not the end of this story. The kittens were rescued by a dog named Regan. He found the bag and dragged it all the way home to his owner and whined until she opened it.

"The instincts of the dog was to nurture, not kill because the blood. Regan the dog is a hero," said Blakely.

The kittens were so weak they had to be fed with a bottle every two hours.

"Whether them being dumped out was an act of cruelty or desperation, we will never know. But we want people to know there's better ways," Blakely explained.

Three months later, Skipper and Tipper look like normal, healthy kittens. It's all thanks to a loving pooch and the kindness of animal lovers.

The Raccoon Valley Animal Sanctuary says it has been flooded with calls from people who want to adopt the cats.

Definitely hope Karma catches up with these people...:guns:

Yep, Humans are sick...don't want them drop them off at an Animal Shelter...yeah they hate people just dropping off but at least its better then tossing them in a bag and tossing the bag on the roadway.

The DDFL has a night drop for God's sake if you don't have the stones to take them in during the day?

Can we bag the people up and run them over a few times?

As to the dog--go dog!

And my heart goes out to the people who had to find that mess and saved the 2 kittens they could. I can't imagine that was a pretty sight, nor one easily forgotten.

bag of kittens..hit on rd....

.......i actually witness this disgraceful act of a piece of shit. last yr. on the way home just before 9pm...southbound university just pass arapahoe and nearing the king soopers on the right. i see something on the road, 3-4 scrambling. one was already maimed and the others still alive...as i pass, questioned my-self was that.....??? kittens....?? I could not have done anything right away. due to traffic. i was so disgusted for the remainder of the night and now for how sub-humans treat helpless animals. sure enuff the next day on the way back to work. there were the remains, all flattened out. Just remembering the poor kittens scrambling to avoid the tires sickens me.....

Definitely hope Karma catches up with these people...

it already has to be due to the fact that people go to such extremes to dispose life...Their own lives are already pityful. And they are callus to misery..

OK... one more for dog lovers. I read this book a couple of months ago and loved it. Normally it takes me a long time to finish a book because I'm easily distracted. This one I read in two days.

+1 for this book! I was skeptical at first, but it was a great read. It made me think twice about how I talk to my dog. Just in case he really does process that well

She goes once a month or so. The previos owner never cut them they are much shorter now than 3 yrs ago. I know its sad they cropped her ears instead.
