Ok, so maybe it's just my ignorance about this model but how is it possible that a police officer couldn't figure out how to disarm a gun and accidentally fired it while trying? Is there something unique about this gun that would explain this? Or, is this just keystone cops stuff?

You never know how the person has the gun setup. Could be a super light trigger pull. With a revolver might not have had a safety. Just pull the hammer and/or squeeze the trigger. Who knows the condition of the firearm, might have had a faulty hammer that would release without a trigger pull, etc. My guesses are, the TSA agent was probably just nervous and accidentally caused it to fire by pulling the trigger.

Yeah, that makes sense. One bit of clarification, it was an Atlanta LEO, not TSA. I first thought the same thing about it being a nervous TSA agent but nope.

NFW. Gotta give him props for holding it together and turning it into a lesson for the kids, though.

Clearing a revolver is NOT rocket science. One of the 4 rules of gun safety: NEVER put your finger in the trigger guard until you are ready to fire. Cop Fail!

Traveler fail: Firearms in checked baggage must be unloaded, in a locked container, per TSA regs. Dude was an idiot to begin with.

I of course agree with the last part.

However, in his defense, we often don't encounter good, decent, or popular guns on the street. We generally deal with guns that if they have a brand name, it's one I've never heard of. They are also old, dirty as hell, and are never really used. The manipulations of these guns tends to be very abnormal as well. We pulled a gun off a guy a while back and could not figure out how to clear the chambered round. It was passed between 4 of us, all competent gun-handlers, none of us could figure it out. One of these 4 was an armorer and a firearms instructor. We finally had to get the bad guy to explain it to us. I don't remember the model or how it was done, but it was something none of us had thought of (It was an older, very small semi-auto). However, all though joked about, none of us tried pulling the trigger haha.
