If you didn't wake up before the rooster and drive into work early like me then you have a fun drive ahead of you!!

I was on I-25 north at 5am and it was wide open with plenty of snow to make it fun!!!

I'm not usually one to complain about the snow... and I'm still not.

What I am a bit salty about is that I called work at 5, then at 6 when I was heading out. I've been at the office for a half an hour, and they close the office...

I'm more upset with myself for not taking the 3 hours of flex time and sleeping in... Insert facepalm here.

There's probably almost 8" at my apartment in Aurora. But, it wasn't a bad drive in, unlike that first snowstorm. Debating getting a set of blizzaks since the Yoko's are performance all-season, and do great in the wet, and decent in the unpacked snow, but not so good when it's packed or icy.

I do believe there is a flooring guy in your new hood. He is damn good at what he does. Prices are comparable to anybody else, and maybe a little cheaper for being close to home. Hit me up if you need a flooring guy.

He does most other home repairs too.

This has been the the snowstorm of '11 that I've been waiting for. Finally have some proper conditions to drive the Blizzak-equipped 'Burban!

As far as my ~ 5 mile drive into work, it took about as much time as usual, if for no other reason than there were fewer drivers out on Arapahoe Rd. than usual.

G'luck getting around today, everybody. Drive patiently.

goddamn. Shit sucked. I have to say my 4x4 truck with BFG all terrains was awesome in the snow. The G35x, not so much. Still fun cause it likes to get sideways and the all wheel drive system is good, but the tires suck.

Installed the Blizzaks on the Forester XT last night (first time). Blasted up the hills and owned corners like a BOSS.

Ok, maybe not quite like that, but I was definitely more in control and had no problems with upward momentum, compared to some of the other drivers this morning.

Quattro's Haldex system is Ok, but Snow + STI + Pirelli Sotto-Zero Preformance Winter tires = the fun I've been waiting for.

I love snow, love, love, love driving in it. My birthday is in December, as a kid, I was in line for my license test the day of a blizzard, I was the first in line and the only one able to take the test before they canceled them due to the weather.

Give me tons of snow, more snow than this and I'll still be out in it.

I was out this morning driving around just for the fun of hitting unplowed roads before anyone mucked them up or they got plowed, and in a bit I'll probably head back out to see if I can still find any unspoiled snow.

As much as I love riding, I love driving in the snow even more...

Now, we just need about another foot of it and some wind...

Another foot and your STI would high-center. Some times, I miss my 4WD truck, driving in the deep stuff when all the little subies and other soft-roaders (like my RAV4 etc.) were stuck. Ah well, maybe one day I'll get a Jeep or something......

Depends on what you're looking for. I've run Blizzaks in the past, but while they're great in the snow and ice, they're awful in the dry.

Since our "winters" are a lot of dry driving, I stopped using them a while back and swapped to "performance winter" tires.

But, for your RAV they're probably fine, and they're arguably one of the best tires for the money.

Hakkas cost more but are slightly better, and I've had good results with both.

When it's fresh, and light and fluffy I can power through quite a bit without high-centering. When it melts, then freezes and turns to rock, sure, but now when it's powder, it's just fun.

Blizzaks rock for the first season, but you have to swap em out as soon as winter ends, otherwise the soft grippy outer carcass wears out fast in the dry. Then you're left with a harder compound like a set of good all seasons for the second winter. I had Blizzaks on my Quattro and could out drag an SUV in the snow, sending up rooster tails as I went.

Hakka's last a bit longer than Blizzaks in my experience. As for studded tires, talk about sending sparks and 4 wheel drifts in the dry!

General Altimax Arctic

Can probably find them cheaper and consumer reports has then rated higher than the Bilzzaks.

Check out the tire rack test report on them:

I have them on my A6 and the thing is now unstoppable in the snow.

As for studded tires, talk about sending sparks and 4 wheel drifts in the dry! A lot of people have said this, but I have never had issues with them on dry road. I do change them out for the summer, but plenty of dry days I use them in the winter. Once I hit some gravel driving like a fool, but don't think that was the tires; just me driving like a fool on gravel

I remember that storm, about, 5 or 6 Christmases ago where we got absolutely slammed. I was getting around ok in my Dakota QC 4WD while seeing a ton of stuck/high-centered Subies and other soft-roaders, but it got bad enough that since my truck didn't have as much clearance as, say, a Ram because of my IRS front, I called it a day and headed home. But there was easily almost 2 feet of snow. I remember people in my apt. complex being snowed in for over 2 weeks.

I've read that the Hakka's are the shiznot, but that the blizzaks are pretty good and a LOT cheaper. I mean, I'm getting around with the Yoko's, but, if I can afford it, might consider a set of the 'Zaks. Everyone seems to like them, and I'd swap them out pretty quick when the weather got better to save them.

If you mean that November blizzard of 04 or 05 I had my WRX and my FXT and never had an issue in either--in fact, I was the only one who got to work on time a few of those days and while others got stuck in the housing complex I lived in, I didn't. But, I grew up on unpaved and typically unplowed roads, so maybe I'm just used to it.

If you get the Blizzaks, be sure to swap them asap when it's dry or all the little winter sipes will wear off almost immediately and you'll be left with very nice all-seasons that won't work all that well in the winter. The sidewalls are also super soft and flexible, so they squirm a lot in the dry.

I think that was the one. The closed the city of FTC because of it, but I tell ya, if you didn't have a truck, you would have been stuck. The snow was quickly getting so deep even I had to pack it in. Maybe you guys got a lot less snow, but I was running out of clearance in my Dakota, and it had a lot bigger tires and clearance than any subie plus a rear LSD and low range.

Yeah, I'm sure I'd tear them up quickly on the high-speed drive to Longmont to get my daughter 4 times a month. I might do it, if I can swing the $$. gotta see what my taxes are gonna be like this year.

Ghost - Your just used to it like I am. I kid you not there were a few Suburbans yesterday going 5mph on the plowed roads around here. I just passed them although I knew it was a double yellow mainly because it was totally ridiculous and uncalled for (learn to drive in the winter people, not a big deal).

I remember once in MI it was a blizzard, I pushed my way through the snow into the office parking lot in my Ford Escort...never got stuck, and I was acting as the plow in the 14"+ white stuff. Needless to say I showed to work, so did the owner and that was it. Guys with Jeeps and what have you called in. I surfed the net for a bit and did updates on certain system we otherwise could never do them due to them needing to be on and then I think we both went home...LOL

I love deep stuff....

If I would of had someone else in a vehicle with me I would of continued up Mt Herman....just not worth pushing it to get stuff (at least I did take the snow shovel, tow straps with me).

Yeah, I think so. Like I said, I love driving in it, doesn't matter how deep. I grew up driving in it, on unplowed gravel roads in a RWD, FWD or 4x4 (AWD came later). Never mattered to me, and I'd go out of my way just to play in it before the plows came.

To me, it was better than skiing, and no one else was ever on the roads so it was just a winter playground for me, and it still is--there's just too many idiots out there now to really have fun like in the "good old days".

There's so many people from CA or TX or wherever that just need to stay home when it snows--I adjust my driving to the conditions, but seriously, going *5* mph on Arapahoe or 35mph on 470 is just paranoid and pathetic--especially in the fast lane...

You had me onboard until then. My Nordica Hot Rod Nitrous do not have a deductable, and in the autos, there was there enough opportunity to hooligan "in reverse" so-to-speak.

But yeah... if you grew up as a teen and young adult in this state, and had parents who talked to you about it, prior to even being of driving-age, getting around in the snow like we've had, is totally achievable. In anything.

I actually am gaining increased respect for the lazy whores that just are like..... "fuck it", and don't even dig out to come to work or even try and drive in it. At least you're admitting defeat, instead of A.) Crashing and making it worse, or B.) Doing the 5mph routine down Arapahoe with your hazards on, and none of your ga'damn windows scraped clean. :grr:

Your driveway was the worst I faced on Thursday, the plow made a pass and moved it up behind me while I was inside locking stuff up after cleaning the car off, I backed right into then had to dig out. No real problems other than that.

There's so many people from CA or TX or wherever that just need to stay home when it snows--I adjust my driving to the conditions, but seriously, going *5* mph on Arapahoe or 35mph on 470 is just paranoid and pathetic--especially in the fast lane...
I pass plenty of Colorado plates in my Texas plated Z4 plowing along, usually some Corolla "moving" along at 5 mph, those retards don't understand that you need momentum in a lot of situations and yes, they should just stay home no matter where they are from. The thing is in Austin people do the same thing when it rains, when it comes to any talk about the remote snow chances there everyone stays home...which is probably advisable for most of them since rain is hard for them. Rain in Austin would cause a bigger delay for me on my commute than any snow that I have faced here.

The wife's 4Runner would be better at it, no plow effect from the 6" ground clearance but that is still in Austin until February. It didn't do well on the ice on I-20 in West Texas on Saturday but then nothing does much good on that crap.
