Godspeed #143 Spencer Russell

It is with a very heavy heart that we must report to you all this morning that young Spencer Russell #143 died last night.

Spencer joined the MRA in 2011 as an up-and-coming competitor in the 250 Cup Series and was a fresh and smiling face in the paddock. His competitive spirit and wonderful personality was a perfect fit in our organization. He will be dearly missed by all...

Additional details regarding funeral arrangements will be posted as we know them. We want to be sure not to overwhelm his family with our presence at his service, so please wait for information from us before making plans to attend.

The service will be on Saturday, January 21st at 10am at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Wheat Ridge:

The family welcomes the MRA members and friends to attend the service. Because of the large numbers expected, please plan to arrive early to park, etc.

The family has requested that you please "do not" send flowers to the service as they will not be able to find a home for all of them and they will go to waste.

In lieu of flowers, you may prefer to donate to the Spencer Russell Memorial Fund which is in the process of being set up at Compass Bank. This fund will help the family with the costs of the service and other things associated with the loss of their son.

Details regarding the fund will be posted up as soon as we have them.

I didn't know him but saw him in the paddock a few times. He always seemed to have a huge smile, like he knew he was doing the coolest thing in the world and something he loved. Far too young. RIP Spencer.

While I did not know Spencer personally, I saw him many times around the track and new his number well. It saddens me to see such a talented young rider lost too soon.

It's sad to see such a young man gone. How old was Spencer? He couldn't have been more then 14 years old by the pictures.

He was 13 last year when he was racing with us.

He also rode the 4 hour endurance as a solo rider and beat me by 4 laps if I remember correctly. I battled with him for the last 1/2 hour of the 4 hours, we pushed each other to the end of a race that was physically and mentally exhausting, that was the last time I was going to be able keep up with him. He improved so much through the course of the season it was really apparent he was going to be special.
