Anyone in the Denver area have a piece of 1/8" to 3/16" stainless plate (or 1/4" aluminum).... about 8"x7" in size (or bigger)I can pass you a few bucks for? I brewing up a instrument mount plate for my bike to relocate my gauge cluster to ontop of my handlebars.

1/4" aluminum? You better have a milling machine to cut that or you'll be there a while. 3/16" stainless ain't no piece of cake either, in fact, stainless is nice but a complete PITA to work with.

I'm not sure why you'd even consider using steel. Why not use plastic?

I'm with Townie there. Make sure it's reliable and tight, and leave it be. A 8" by 7" piece of 3/16" steel? That's like 5 pounds right there.

If you must dencol steel is in Denver they are pretty cheap.
