Advise:
Currently, a 2012 House Bill, (HB 1060 (http://www.leg.state.co.us/CLICS/CLICS2012A/csl.nsf/fsbillcont3/DE51EBF15E2BB0C487257981007E046F?Open&file=1060_01.pdf)) will be voted on soon and must be opposed. This bill is written as 'Scope of Practice', creates a 'Regulatory Board', (Biased 3 Dietetic vs 2 other) forces Certified Nutritionists to become Dietitians or receive a fee/jail time.
It appears the ADA, (American Dietetic Association) wants to monopolize what nutrition information and services are available in hospitals and to the general public.
Positions that are directly impacted:
Naturopaths, Nutritionists, Personal Trainers, Fitness Trainers, Weight-Reduction Centers, Alternative/Complementary Doctors, Chiropractors, Acupuncturists, Health Coaches, Wellness Centers, etc.
Kindly notice how a lot of individuals who work with Nutrition have higher degrees/education than a lot of Dietitians. There is a Ph.D. in Nutrition!
I received a response from one of the Senators:
Wow - thanks very much for writing about HB 1060. I haven't seen the bill yet - it has to go through the House before coming to the Senate,
but if we don't hear from Nutrition Specialists, we wouldn't have a
clue about how it impacts you and your work.
You need to make sure your profession is present and testifying at the
first committee hearing in the House.
