SaShWhO
Thu Mar 8th, 2012, 02:26 PM
Assuming I dont smoke my clutch or rear off the bike on Saturday I think I'll go on a nice, chill , early season ride this Sunday, March 11, 2012a.d.
If you'd care to join let's meet at ThorCo for a 10 am ksu.
(Thorco is the Thornton Conoco on the southwest corner of 120th and I-25)

This will NOT BE a scorcher paced ride so if your new to riding and or CSC group riding this may be a good one to go on.

plan is to end up in Lyons at or round lunch time for some Oskar Blues goodness.

hope to see some old as well as new faces!

It is probably the cleanest Repsol you will find, and that's including the one hanging from the ceiling at Quaker Steak & Lube.

I have a yellow gsxr, but I dont think that I made any unsafe passes really? Maybe I wont join the big group rides if I'm gonna piss people off... I always ride my own ride and try to make safe passes, but I'm sure that some folks may have a diff opinion at times? There was a lot of folks out today and some more comfortable than others it seemed. Again, my bad if anyones upset.. See ya next time.

I appreciate the support, my next video wont be for awhile as i still have a lot of stuff i need to get on camera to complete the video that's in my head. It will be to the song "sail" by Awolnation there's gonna be fast canyon fun, superfast track fun, burnouts, stunts, and whatever else i can think of.

If anyone wants to be part of my video just keep an eye out for my thread's to go on a ride and get footage.

Just my .02,

Looks there might have been another yellow GSXR based on the photos, so don't get all defensive. Did you try to pass on a blind and nearly head on a car? Then you are an asshat that should tone it down a touch, especially in a big ass group. Was this not you? Happily move on, sir.

I would also add that sometimes the asshats are the guys that dont know how to let the faster bikes pass. As in get the fuck out of the way so I can pass!

Sitting behind someone waiting for them to do something is frustrating. The more they do it the more the anticipation builds. The more it builds the more someone is likely to force a pass when its not ideal. Blablabla.

We all cause and have been the recipient of that, but on a newb ride where we definitely had newbs (first ride, first canyon ride, first trip on their bike) it might've been a bad idea, irregardless of the other circumstances. We were all mixed up from time to time, so there is no guarantee the newbs were all together, etc.

I've been riding for 16 years and I still get spooked when someone passes me on a double-yeller...

I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one....

If I... as a motorcyclist wanting to make a pass, need the assistance of the intended pass'ee in front of me, in order to do it.... Then I have no business making said pass.

IMO, passing has nothing to do with "faster bikes", but rather riders who know how to make their bikes fast, and get it over and done with quickly and drama-free.

As one of slower riders, I also disagree. You should be able to make a pass at your discretion and have it be a safe pass, without me "letting" you do it. It shouldnt even be a concern for a slower rider that they are holding people up. That's when people start taking stupid chances and riding above their skill level, because they feel they are in the wrong and in the way.

If you come up on a slower rider, you also need to be respectful of that person, allowing them the freedom to ride their own ride, and do it at their level of comfort. As Ty stated, there were new new riders out there with us. Concentrating on their ride was probably taxing enough without having to worry if they were holding you up.

It is the responsibly of the passing rider to make a safe pass. There are plenty of straights where you can get by safely even occupying the same lane.

This is recreation folks, if you are getting frustrated with the people in front of you go ride with other people or find another hobby...

Didn't make the ride, but was riding back on 93 from Boltard around 3-4 and ran into a lot of other bikers. Two of them kinda rubbed me the wrong way. Came up behind, and started riding really close to me. Wouldn't have been a problem if I knew them or was riding with them, but don't appreciate getting crowded by someone I don't know. They then made a slightly sketch pass to get in front of the car ahead of me, only to be stopped by the long line of cars ahead of them headed into Golden. I understand passing if you can get ahead, but not sure where they though they were going to go with 20 cars lined up ahead.

So guy with temp plate and helmet mohawk, I'm watching for you.

I really don't think it was me that willb is talking about. I wouldnt ever make a pass in a blind corner, I'm pretty stupid but don't have a death wish. Every pass I made I felt was a safe one and I would slow up for whomever was in front, give them plenty off breathing room, and pass when I felt it was safe enough. One nice thing about a liter bike is it only takes a quick blip of the throttle to get around any car or bike and I always try to leave room/time for other drivers and riders to react. Never know what someone in a car will do. I'm also being honest when I say my appologise if anyone disagreed with my riding. There was a ton of people out yesterday and I'm glad for that, but might stick to smaller group rides from now to avoid confusion or anyone getting angry. Hope everyone had a good time yesterday! I know I did! I'm also sore as hell lol!! Been a while sense I've been on the bike for that long and I'm still spent from it haha!!

I think occupying the same lane would freak out new riders or piss off people that you don't normally ride with. Last summer, I had a Hardley rider pass me on I-25 in my lane!! I was already speeding and was like wtf d-bag! Also, if someone is on a liter bike and they are parkin' it in the corners, then hauling a$$ in the straights, it's difficult for a smaller cc bike to pass... Sure you could probably pass them in a corner, but honestly on the street, it's not safe or wise to do, so... This brings me to the post below by Jmetz.. if I see someone in my mirror behind me who wants to pass (if I didn't do this yesterday, my apologies), I move over to the right and wave them on. Easy enough, yes?

Thats probably because you are a bad ass MoFo! But I do try to cooperate with other riders. Do I HAVE to? No. But if am going to pass someone (and a car) it sure helps if the rider I am passing knows what to do when I do it. I would rather get waved by (then I know we are on the same page) and like Ty said I am not spooking anyone. There are only a few legal passing spots on 7 and I guess it pisses me off that I would wait for one of them to make a pass and the rider in front of me is dickin around in the lane instead of yielding to the faster riders behind them. You cant disagree that its safer if the slower riders understand what is going on and how they can help the fluidity of the ride.

I hear what you're sayin' EJ, and I too (even on this past ride) try to peak at my mirrors to make sure nobody is riding my rear, itching to get by. For instance I was pacing kingtut down 7, there were a couple of instances when somebody got around him, and caught up to me pretty quickly. The riders probably didn't realize that I was trying to let Nate follow me, so when they got behind me, I just got over to the right, and gave them the universal go-ahead-and-go-by-in-this-same-lane signal.

In general though, I think quote/unquote "slower" riders are already trying their hardest to compute everything in front of them, to understand that it behooves them to let other pass them, to get around the car that they're stuck behind. It's probably less of a cooperation thing, and more of a nervous "damn, I'm stuck behind this truck that I'm freaked out to pass, and now people are piling up behind me." behavior.

But like I said.. Any sportbike rider that finds themself stuck behind a newbie or 2 (who themselves are stuck behind a car/truck) and starts itching to pass, really should be able to do it safely with the most minimal of "openings" and also by using their blinker!!

And you're right, I can't disagree that it is safer if newer/slower riders understand what is going on and also how they can help the fluidity of the ride, but I also realize that it's somewhat of an advanced understanding, and it needs to be executed precisely with bikes in close proximity of each other.

At the end of the day though, I hold no greater expectation of new and slower riders, than that they simply enjoy their ride and do everything within their abilities to get home safely, so we can all do it again the next time! My anticipation should never have to be a concern of theirs. ;)

I cant imagine someone giving advice to a new(er) rider and not mentioning what to do when other bikes push them.

My anticipation should never have to be a concern of theirs. ;)

I agree with all of this. Especially the part about learning when/how to let others know you are ok with them passing you. It's a learned habit, like much of everything else.

1) For a ride that had 40+ riders of all skill levels and no one went down, broke down or got a ticket = a good ride.
2) Mistakes were made by me ( a pass I would like to have back) and I witnessed some errors by others (right side and double yellow blind curve passes) but we are constantly learning in this sport. If a rider realy pisses you off go talk to them and get their perspective, skill level etc.
3) I am the slowest rider :) I'll throw down a slow off any time!

What pisses me off is the guy on the white Hayabusa that passed me going up 7.

Am I pissed cause he crowded me? No.
Am I pissed because he did it in a blind turn? No.
Am I pissed because his bike is white too? No.
I am pissed because he passed me like I was in reverse and I was almost flat out in 2nd. I now have a bad case of "his is bigger than mine."

I am still grinning today just thinking about yesterday.

To the new riders, I started riding last June, and I was honored to be the slow rider every time out. Not once was I made fun of for being slow. To paraphrase what Cornfed said yesterday, nobody minds waiting for slower riders for a few minutes, everyone minds when some dumbass crashes because they were riding way beyond their limits and crashed causing everyone to wait an hour. If the people you are riding with aren't willing to wait, they aren't worth riding with.

Mon Mar 12th, 2012, 08:15 PM
For instance I was pacing kingtut down 7, there were a couple of instances when somebody got around him, and caught up to me pretty quickly. The riders probably didn't realize that I was trying to let Nate follow me, so when they got behind me, I just got over to the right, and gave them the universal go-ahead-and-go-by-in-this-same-lane signal.

At the end of the day though, I hold no greater expectation of new and slower riders, than that they simply enjoy their ride and do everything within their abilities to get home safely, so we can all do it again the next time! My anticipation should never have to be a concern of theirs. ;)

My first group ride with CSC I was behind Bornwildnfree most of the ride, and I learned a lot. Following better riders has been one of the biggest reasons my riding skills have improved as much as they have.

only food for thought i have is: Patrick and I hit the top of Highway 7 and my ass was cold so i immediately turned around and started to head back. on my way back down, i saw a few of y'all crowding that double yellow line. didn't see anyone cross it. but that shouldn't be used as a rumble strip. you got a car/truck heading the opposite way crowding that same double yellow or even crossing it you got nowhere to go.

It is surprising I wasn't deaf. Anyone riding near Milkman is at risk of permanent hearing loss, jesus that GSXR is loud.

In all seriousness though, I have only heard other riders make fun of people when they have ridden beyond their limits and crashed, never for being slow. I have also never met any of the people they make fun of. If you are a danger to yourself, you are a danger to other riders and will find yourself riding alone a lot.

From my two friends that own Busa's and have owned other sportbikes, they both said the Busa just "looks" bulky. They say they feel almost as good, handling-wise, as any prior bike of theirs. Obviously on a real track there will be differences, but on the street not-so-much. As mentioned, it's more about rider-skill & experience.

They actually suggested I added Busa to my list of wanted bikes in the future.

ive had a few busas over the years as well as many other bikes, they are for sure not a track monster, unless it mostly straight, but they look way bigger and heavier then they actually are. I think they are a ok all around bike. I was being a little sissy with my new "quality chain" i just got so i was putting around on sat. But i love showing people that busas can indeed turn. I think SLO was a great example of that on his stretched busa a few yrs back.

Busa's do just fine on the track as well as long as you lift them, other wise you drag hard parts. Last year when I was in Reno for a Busa event, we spent a day at the track (Reno Fernley Raceway) It really did show me that the bike is capable of handling anything you throw at it. Still trying to find some video of the track day.

i agree nuts they are ok on a track, just not as sweet in the turns as some of the 600's, 1000's cc's but pretty good overall. I heard about the lifting part, i heard a tad in the rear makes the turn alot better, might give it a try.

I think I am going to run this EU company called DanMoto. There all over junk Ebay for around 150 new, it eliminates the cat and has a single sided small carbon fiber muffler that looks sorta GP style, but will still point the noise out back of the bike and not straight into my right ear anymore lol! Theres a few clips on the internetz and they seem to sound pretty good and not too too loud and they are super affordable! So even if I dont like it, I'm not out a bunch of coin.

3 weeks ago I was on the 101 NB into SFO and got lane-split around by ~8 cross-plane R1s.

Aside from the fact it was nerve-wracking, the sound of it was just awesome.
