View Full Version : Does anyone else watercool their PC?

I was getting frustrated with how hot my GPU/CPU was getting in my new Lian-Li case, so I went back to something I haven't done in about 10 years. But it's bleeding now and working great. Just wondering if it's as rare as it used to be?

Oh and just for S&G's. This is why you don't stand behind a M1 tank with a fleece while the engine is running, you literally catch on fire. One of my NCO's:

I don't, but a co-worker of mine has a dual-reservoir liquid cooling system. It has channels for not only the CPU and GPU, but it also cools his memory DIMMS.

Off the subject, but can I ask what Gadgets do you have on your desktop, feeding you perf. metrics?

Yeah, NB. HDDs, RAM... that's when you start getting silly. DDR3+ stays pretty cool. Should go phase change >.> lol...

Great gadgets. Ties in with Coretemp and displays the data on my G510.

Its all about dat propane phase change.

Watercooling is still pretty overkill IMO. I was considering it, but happy I didn't. My HAFX case keeps everything cool enough, although a SLI setup might push it too much if I ever go that far.

Yeah, I couldn't overclock my 580 for shit. With all the extra devices in there it's hot as hell.

If I was going to drop the coin on watercooling, I would probably seriously consider mineral oil submersion as an alternative.

Haha, I remember that stuff. Crazy, would be messy to work with.

Bose-Einstein condensate. When you absolutely, positively, need to run cool. =)

There's a diy kit out there with everything you need + radiator (12 fan) in the $600 range. Who doesn't want to have their PC in a fish tank on their desk?

http://www.pugetsystems.com/aquarium-computer.php

My HAFX setup maxes out around 60c at load, which is comprable, but that setup has a good 10-15c on me at idle. More of a cool-factor than anything, I suppose.

This was the first thread that got me interested in phase change in the first place:

LOL

If I remember, this guy maxed out a cpu at over 6GHZ(!) back in 2006.

I do recall some german guys doing LN2 cooling as well.

5.24Ghz back in 2003 on a Pentium 4. I think the problem they started hitting was the northblock freezing up.

With a little tinkering I was able to gain 200Mhz on stock volts and a significant amount on the gpu.

2600K @ 4.6Ghz
580 at 950/4400 @ 1.25
DDR3 1333 at 1600 stock volts

I run my 3.06GHz i7 at 3.8GHz, with 12GB memory, 4 hard drives, 2 double height nvidia video cards (460GT & 8800GT), with the OEM heat-sink and fan on the processor. My second setup in this case, an Antec Nine-Hundred, which has a ridiculous amount of air flow thanks to all the fans, mostly the giant one on top right above the processor. Through all my gaming and everything else, I've never had a problem with cooling. Aside from serious overclocking, I've never really seen a need to go to liquid. As long as you keep the dust out, and keep the air flowing, it seems that only the extreme setups require anything beyond OEM cooling.

My homebuilt PC with Koolance components. Haven't experimented with any overclocking, plus the CPU & mobo are outdated now. Video still just a measly GTX460. I'll rebuild someday, IF I ever get back into gaming more.

specs on gpu and cpu? you a big overclocker?

that side mount cooler is pretty ghetto looking lol.

I just built micro ATX with AMD 4100 (oc to 4ghz), 550ti, 2 HD's and a cheap stock case, it runs really cool. I just have a $20 coolermaster cooler on the CPU, and the two fans that came in the case.

Wow, cooling insanity. That's some cyberpunk trick shit. Now I know who to ping when I build my next rig. Not now though, Summer is all about OUTdoors, heheh.

I just use good o' heat sink.

Lmao that heat sink is serious business!

I have a dell xps 15z sitting on a lap cooling pad. (I haven't had a desktop in years)
And it stays fairly cool considering how slim and packed in everything is. I suppose there's ways to make it more efficient but it does everything I need It o do and then some so I'm happy with it.

thx...i was shooting for a slightly steam punk look (without going all gear-driven).

this build was just meant to help me keep my sanity this winter. looking forward to getting outside
