Looking for suggestions on a chain tool. I've got a 525 on my bike I need to break and replace with a riveted link. Is it a waste of money to go with a kit >$100?

just use a grinder. grind the rivit on the link you want to seperate takes a few min.

yes he is a redneck. no dont do it in your house. and yes you can do it with the chain still on your bike.

I'd like to get one to have. Something I can take with me as part of my long distance tool kit.

Its been asked a million times. I lent my DID one out and never got it back ended up with one from Harbor Freight and it has held up pretty well. The key to using a cheap one is to make sure you pack it with grease every time.

Sure the DID works really well but if its just for occasional use (one or two times every year) then its worth its weight in gold. Last I checked they were $10!

I have a really nice DID one I paid about $130 for, works awesome, extremely high quality, and you'll never wear it out. It was worth it to me.

I lost my chain on the 250 from the clip master coming apart, twice.
Both times I had it safety wired, the second time I had dbl. wired it.
I bought rivit links for it when I replaced it at the end of the season.

I have motion Pro picked it up for about $100 bucks. I've used it about a dozen times and it works great.
