Is it Boulder county too? Gilpin County always had a hard-on for bikes.. I say we boycott businesses there to send a message. (yeah it didn't work before but doesn't mean we can't try again)

Can't find it at the moment, somewhere there's a state of colorado fine schedule for speeding tickets (maybe on the back of a ticket) and I believe it only kicks in at 5-9mph over, so the +2mph tickets may be argued. I spoke to a coworker who used to be a cop and even without speedo error, differences in tire profile can make a 2mph difference.

Oh yeah... :321: NSFW http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiX7GTelTPM

"All motorcyclists in the state of Colorado can suck my ass! You guys want me to share the road with you, but you guys can't obey the most basic of traffic laws.

I can't tell you how many of you fools passed me on winding mountain roads on double-yellows with blind curves, just so they could gain 10 car lengths on the way down the canyon. (Actually, I can tell you how many. Four!)

You guys think that you are only endangering yourselves, but you're wrong.

Most folks that bitch about 'crotchrockets' wouldn't if the riders would show some restraint. Fucktards that insist on passing on double yellows and in blind corners are the biggest bitch out there. If a rider makes ANY motorist uncomfortable under any circumstance (while the motorist is abiding by the law) then expect this attitude. I have found if you give all the cages plenty of room AND DON'T PULL ANY SHIT TO SCARE THEM, you can usually get around them at speed and not have them shit their wadded panties. Just a thought. ;)

Problem is, someone ELSE pisses off the cops, and/or the cagers, and then they both decide to hate *every* other rider out there.

As NN posted above, you don't have to ride like a fucking idiot all the time--do it when there's no one around.

One of the main reasons I quit group rides was because I was sick of being part of a pack of idiots who'd pass on double yellows, hike wheelies through towns, and generally be attention-grabbing fucktards that would, inevitably, get the cops called out.

But, even when I'm not in those groups, the anti-bike (particularly anti-Sport Bike) fervor is so rabid that I'm guilty by association--merely owning/riding a sportbike has lumped me in with the idiots, and I find that highly fucking irritating.

Yes, it's fun to go do stupid shit, I get it, just don't do it where and when it scares/pisses everyone off so that everyone is now out to get *every* rider...especially in the age of cell phones where everything is now video'd and then shown to the cops that they just called after witnessing your too-close/near-head-on DYP and/or general fucktardery.

Almost every time i have gone out so far this season every car i get behind i have kept my distance and they have been pulling to the side for me, at the beginning it seemed everyone was going to be fairly mature and civil about this years riding but it seems a lot of other riders have now fucked that up for everyone else.

In the mere 21 years I have been ridding sport bikes between deckers and Poudre Canyon, Cops have been treating Sport bikes like a disease. I know for a fact that there are allot of guys that wick it up when the flashing lights click on and disappear. So when the "Law abiding" Rider passes a minute later at 8 mph over, he snags em. Running is dicey and if you really have that much to lose if you do stop then you should be one of the careful ones out there trying to preserve your privilege to ride. Excessive speeds carry the potential to kill you and anybody else involved. Wait until the higher roads get cleared (Steamboat, Walden, and Wolf Creek etc.) before you get on the gas. Cops seem to mind allot less if you are the only person around and you’re speeding excessively. At this point in the season we are all bunched up on a few roads that have been reported clean. Just my 2 cents worth.

This is nothing new...cops do this every year and every year it gets worse because more and more fools buy bikes and abuse them, which piss more and more cops off. I got told this in Deckers years ago, so now it is just expanding to other areas. Let's face it, people who live up in these mountains roads are sick of sportbikes using the roads as a racetrack.

If anything this is a transition from newer riders becoming veterans and learning you can't really push it on the street and learning to be able to enjoy riding without pushing it so hard. I wish I could still fly around on the street like I used to, but many, many, tickets have showed me that they will catch you and they are not as easily handing out warnings to sportbikes anymore.

People think cops do not know the popular places for sportbikes to speed!

It's also a fact that now, unlike 10-20 years ago, more people are living in the mountains and along the "good" roads (that used to be very sparsely populated), more of the people living up there are rich retirees who are apt to bitch and complain about people buzzing by their $1.5Million dollar home at 110mph, and nearly 99.99% of all people have their cell phones with them in their cars and cell coverage is getting much better throughout the mountains--so if they're bored and sick of doing 35mph stuck behind an RV and you go blasting by on a DYP at 95mph they've got nothing better to do than to call the cops and complain, especially now that there's far more traffic on these roads than ever before.

And, lastly, cops are more aggressive about ticketing because it raises revenue, it meets quotas and it makes a public perception that they are doing something to those who called them complaining about the last bike that sped past their house.

Add in the growth of the sport and the higher numbers of idiots with sport bikes and this all conspires to make life miserable for your average rider who's going to catch the brunt of the bullshit caused by other riders.

When I started riding the old guys I rode with used to talk about how great it was in the 70s/80s and how terrible it was in the 90s. Comparatively, I'd rather be riding in 1995 than 2015.

And, as this trend continues, expect everything to simply get worse, not better.

And, as this trend continues, expect everything to simply get worse, not better. Yup, and then add on how easy it is to get 12 points in one year to lose your license (or 18 in two years). You don't realize that till you get one 6 point speeding ticket and you are half way there for the year. Could you imagine losing your license and having to take a bus to work....it would take me 3 times longer on a bus and some walking. As others have said and I have grown to learn...driving is a privilege and not a right!!!

Which is actually why the current points setup is really a fucking stupid system--if they want to make money (and they do) then the points should be a lot lower and the fines much higher so they can keep nailing the repeat customers...

From what I know you can have earbuds hooked up to your phone as an exemption to this rule. Now if you have music blaring, I'm sure they will assume its not actually for phone use :P

Doesn't seem to apply to earplugs that I can see. Seems kind of weird, but maybe the music is considered a distraction more than affecting hearing.

GAAHHHH!!! Scroll down to pg2, sec 54-156

So apparently they CAN ticket you for 1mph over the posted limit. Here I thought 1-4 over was an arguable excuse due to margin of error in equipment and operator error. So much for that myth.

yeah, but the scenery never changes. :p
When you are riding as hard as you dare you aren't looking at scenery, but when you take a break you get to socialize with different people with similar interests.
When I want scenery I ride alone or with my wife at a sane pace and just wick it up a bit in the corners, and with traffic in the straights. I usually let cages gap me between the fun parts, or even stop and wait for a good gap rather than passing all the time only to climb up on the next slow cage.
I went on a group ride a couple weekends ago to Bishops with a responsible group of riders, but still found myself out of my comfort level as far as speeding goes, but that's what happens in groups.

I really enjoy riding my motorbikes in the mountains and would never give it up but I do not want to have to deal with the law so I try to reduce my risk, and get all the speed fix I can handle at the tracks.

I was stopped going up Golden Gate in September last year, and let go with a warning. I had earbuds in and he told me it would be a $20 ticket.

I rode this Saturday and linked up with another random rider in Woodland Park on my way to Deckers. He mentioned there being cops everywhere.

We rode at a sane pass but wicked it up in the corners. Immediately following horse power hill we passed a JeffCo Sheriff and then a second sheriff just after Buffalo Creek.

It gave me a bad feeling (I'm sitting at 3 points left) so I turned around with him at Pine Creek Junction and headed home. I had planned to go to Lyons (P2P, Hwy 7) I stayed in on Sunday and painted my wife's office with her.

Time to slow it down and get a radar detector for the bike :)

Ever since doing track days I find inappropriate speeding on the street is not only stupid but doesn't prove how good of a rider you are. I'm comfortable riding "the Pace" all day without riding like an asshat.

Question. Posted limit is say 50, but an advisory (yellow) sign for a curve says 35. can you still get a ticket if you did the corner at 50?

As far as I know, the yellow is a "suggested" speed, and therefore you can not be ticketed.

^^^^ This.

I try to drive in a courteous manner but I have no problem passing on the double yellow but I never pass just for the sake of passing. I'll wait for a clear shot to do it safely and I usually wave to the motorist as I'm passing. I've never had a problem and a lot of times a slower moving car will just pull over or motion me to pass them.

On the same page as ya. Riding so slow that my bike starts overheating isn't my definition of a fun time. I wait for a good time or a gesture for the go ahead and pass respectfully ;-)

i was riding 2 sundays ago with some friends from work, one guy was a newb so we went north of black hawk and rode around and then jammed back to blackhawk for lunch. on the way there i said i would follow the slow guy back to blackhawk to pace him and let him know what he was doing wrong/right. we come around the corner to a glipin county cop truck, he flips his lights on and we stop. he said my buddy (newb) was going 65 and i was going 60. so i get mad cause i was playing catch up so i figured i was faster haha. runs our stuff and says we get a warning cause they couldnt figure out who was going what speed? really you just told us.. anyways then he gives me his card, cause i really wanted that, and says "guys three things, first thanks for pulling over, second thanks for having your plates in the correct location, and lastly thanks for being honest" 4th time for me in gilpin county, all warnings... speed on speeders!

When I want scenery I ride alone or with my wife at a sane pace and just wick it up a bit in the corners, and with traffic in the straights. I usually let cages gap me between the fun parts, or even stop and wait for a good gap rather than passing all the time only to climb up on the next slow cage.

This. And I ride the local canyons only on weekdays.

Yeah, while you might not get a speeding ticket you can get a careless or reckless ticket if the Cap deems what you were doing or how fast you were going to be unsafe. Those tickets are no joke.

YAHTZEE!!

Pass on double yellow allll you want, just do it in the right places. I try not to do it WOT, make it look smooth to the person you are passing and it never hurt anyone to throw a wave.

I think if you treat the "run" like a priority (as in getting first place at the top) you are probably going to pass in the wrong spots and look like a dick doing it. If you treat the pass purely as a way of getting around someone going 35, you pass them going 50, merge back in smoothly and throw a wave you end up looking like a BAWS! ;)

PASS LIKE A BAWS!:headbang:

I got stuck behind a porsche club between Fairplay and Breckenridge a couple of years ago... Those guys were almost as bad as the leather parades! They weren't going fast enough to even remotely consider speeding. Maybe because there aren't any malls or hang out spots for high school chicks... It was horrible!!!

Indeed P2P was a mess today. Lots of cops, lots of traffic, lots of sand in some areas. The section where it kind of runs along the edge of the cliff part was fun though. Was able to carry a little bit of speed through the corners there, but for the most part stayed right around the posted limits and likewise, glad I did.

It sounds like a bunch of you guys might be ditching the sportbike for a Harley soon, so to be opportunistic, like me know if you have a gsxr750 available because I'm looking to upgrade bikes.

P2P...the road itself...between Coal Creek turn-off and north to the hwy7 junction bites...big time!

My hubby and I were driving (in his Bronco) on it back from Trail Ridge this past weekend and I couldn't believe how badly potholed, tar-snaked and just plain nasty that whole stretch is.

Oh and one bright spot about that whole drive...us being the cagers that day...we passed a rider who was chillin on a rock just after the hwy72 turnoff coming south from hwy7 (he had a blue and white Yamaha - I think)...he looked over at us as we were driving and waved. I didn't know the guy and I know he didn't know us and it just hit me how cool, relaxed and extremely friendly this guy was. After several miles, my hubby was pulling onto the shoulder to let the kid pass and he looks right at us as he's passing and waves. Now, this is the kind of rider I'd ride with any day.

I ride the very ass end of it on 7 above lyons. Nothing much farther down south. I agree with most of it being terrible, (at least 72 and the west side of 7 to estes) I rode a bit of 72 and turned around back to 7 because 7 is PERFECT on the east side minus a little sand, but hopefully the rain helped cure that today. 34 from estes to loveland is good when theres no traffic, and Devils gulch was still pretty sandy when I rode this last saturday. Didnt see a single cop up there either.

I've been pulled over on Devils Gultch for sounding fast. True story Cop said he heard us comming and we were on the pipe. Then he smiled and set us free. There is not a canyon road in Colorado that doesn't get some LEO attention. Anyway I have never seen Cops so quick to hit the pretty lights as they are this year.
