These guys never show their true colors right away. They suck you in with how wonderful they are-- and by the time the facade wears thin and the abusive behaviors start, you're caught in this cycle and it's harder than you may think to break it.

You don't want to believe that this person, whom you've grown to love, really means to hurt you. You don't want to accept that despite all of your efforts, it doesn't matter and that person will never change. BUT, it's never the last incident, or the last lie, or the last threat. They are jealous, possessive, and controlling; it all stems from their own insecurities. They can also be extremely manipulative and talk you into going to therapy (they swear to change), moving to a different city ("fresh start" that also isolates you), into doing things that you wouldn't normally do-- all in the name of trying to be happy and salvage the relationship. It seems CRAZY, the things that I tolerated...

It finally got to a point where I couldn't ignore it anymore, and even though he threatened suicide, or worse yet, to kill ME, if I left... I did it anyway.
But it was tough and I will forever be grateful for the support of my friends and family-- not everyone has that advantage.

Anyway, you guys are right- a REAL man has no need to behave this way, or harm a woman who is there to support and love him!

I have ZERO respect for douchebags who think it's okay to pick on women or anyone else who is weaker than them-- they are nothing but bullies.
