It doesnt sit well because there is an image in your head of what happened. That is where all this disagreeing is coming from. There is a different picture in everyones head and in yours you see Zimmerman being out of line for following Treyvon initially. I think a lot of people would agree that if Zimmermans intent was ill when he was following Treyvon than Zimmerman was wrong for the encounter. On the flip, if Zimmermans intent was to see what Treyvon was up to, because he looked suspicious, then there is no fowl. Zimmermans intent was to look after his neighborhood. When he saw someone that was suspicious he followed them. You can do that. If Treyvon went back to kick Zimmermans ass then Treyvon got what he deserved and if they prove that Zimmerman is lying then Zimmerman gets what he deserves. Plain and simple.

The photo's lend a LOT of credence to Zim's claim. There is the witness who TOOK the picture, who backs up Zim's clam. The police say what the pic shows. The EMT saw what the picture shows. There is no "other" story from Martin's side. The police did NOT arrest him until a black prosecuter got involved. A person can be knocked unconscious with little blood. If Zim was on the ground with the thug on top of him, was knocked unconscoius and the thug got his gun, don't you think there's a huge chance the thug would have simply shot him? The witness stated it looked like Zim was dazed. As a person in a situation like that, as you start to black out, first, you're not thinking 100% straight, and second, you cannot tell if the person is going to stop after you're knocked out, or continue until you are dead. Unlike the MMA, there is no ref to step in immediately to stop the fight. Further, once a fighter is on his way to "sleep", why do you think they step in so fast? To prevent permanent damage or death. Think about it.

I don't know WHAT the prosecution saw. That pic was taken by a witness, not the cops. Regardless of that, it still goes a LONG way to pulling the rug out of the prosection's case, because now, it certainly appears that Zim WAS on his back with the thug on top of him, beating his head into the ground. Just like Zim claims. Martin's proponents certainly can't claim otherwise now. And so, without evidence to PROVE Zim was not in fear for his life as this pic would certainly have a jury believe, it'll be pretty cut and dried for a not guilty verdict, if it even goes that far.

My rich neighbor who had huge arsenal of assault rifles hit midlife and decided that being a volunteer fire man wasn't exciting enough and became a Boulder County Sheriff (if you get pulled over by a blonde guy with big handlebar mustache... ask him about his VFR). A few years ago a disgruntled Eldora employee started shooting and killing people at Eldora and then raced off in his car. John was the officer who stopped the car, was shot at ... ran back to his vehicle to return fire and shoot the guy dead quickly and cleanly. HE knew what he was doing... and he is a hero... and a stark contrast to George Zimmerman.

You didn't respond to my other point that if the picture is true...what is definition of defense? Z was not a cop. Not dressed as a cop. He was just a guy on the street at night stalking a person and got close enough to the point that they could touch.

Let us say that this person is CYCLE_MONKEY who forgot his gun at home. Let us say that Z has been suspiciously stalking CYCLE_MONKEY and getting closer and closer until able to grabs or threaten CYCLE_MONKEY. CYCLE_MONKEY has the FL given right to SHOOT TO KILL to defend himself... but he forget his gun in our little allegory. So CYCLE_MONKEY throws the guy to the ground in defense. Go CYCLE_MONKEY! Oops turns out defense is a two-way street and Z didn't forget his gun. Now suddenly Z is defending himself and since CYCLE_MONKEY is now dead... it is just Z saying he was defending himself.

Z had the right to ask for ID. Martin had the right to stay silent and walk away and END the confrontation. Instead of doing that, he chose to circle back and physically assault Z, and hence got his stupid ass shot.

Formal education I don't have a ton of, but that's meaningless in and of itself. I consider myself more street-smart and have, fortunately/unfortunately a little bit of knowledge of the workings of the legal system. There are plenty of people walking around with advanced liberal arts and poly degrees who are complete morons. Martin got away from Z, who did NOTHING physical to Martin. Instead of leaving it well enough alone, Martin instead stalked Z, sucker punched him, and was beating his head into the ground, as shown by the pics and supported by the police and witness statements. At that point, Martin was the agressor, not Z, and Martin rightfully got his stupid ass shot for it.

He was simply protecting himself from an asshole who'd assaulted him, was using deadly force against him, and used the means at his disposal to protect himself, like any one of us who'd been armed would do. Doesn't matter. What matters is that Martin started the physical confrontation, assaulted Z and had him in a very bad position. As an end result, the thug is now dead, instead of some innocent that Martin might have shot later once he'd stolen Z's gun from him.
