View Full Version : '07-'08 Yamaha R1: Pricing?

Ghosty

What is a fair price range for this generation of R1? Consider it <5k miles, exc./mint condition, bone stock Colorado bike, no known accidents, no problems with anything mechanical, brakes, tires, body/paint, 1 or 2 owner max, etc.

KBB says mid-$7k's but doesn't factor in mileage.

Bike values never factor in mileage--it's considered part of its condition.

Some 07 Yamaha R1's had a LAG (ECU) issue, 2008's were not affected. I believe a Yamaha recall.

True, I thought may have been asking for known issues with 07-08 year models as well as pricing...

I'd say $7k is a fair price, maybe a little lower if you find a good deal. Tylar got his '08 for about that 2 years ago. Bone stock, still had the original tires on the thing.

Yeah, April of 2010 i got my '08 with 835 miles on it for just over 7. Depends on the seller...mine had been on the market for quite some time.

Thanks everyone, appreciate the info!

There's a couple good ones right now. We'll see how 'flexible' they are. Unfortunately the market in Colorado in Spring means I might have to also be flexible to get a mint one in my criteria, before too many more nice weekends pass. :)

I seriously hit Craigs at least 4 times a day for two+ months now.

I do some pretty extensive searching. I've seen some decent deals on what I'm looking for (VFR) but they're all out of state.

Heh. I "might" pay $12k for a BRAND NEW one. You can get a NEW CBR1k for that at Fay.

Jmetz: Yeah, I decided it was too much of a pain to do the whole trailer thing and driving both ways. I've actually bought four trucks from out of state, a couple from the NorthEast, NY & Mass., flew out and drove them back. With a bike though, it would be too far of a drive, imo. Well, maybe if it was a big touring or Harley, lol. That hasn't stopped me from looking in bordering states though, if something amazing comes up.

Yeah I found a nice deal out by The Dragon. Tempting but too much for gas. I need a Geo Metro and a trailer.

Maybe if you and I find a deal in the same place at the same time..

He's firm on price, that will tap me out of most of my liquid cash, since obviously no financing. I have to budget in almost $500 for tax/title/plate. Been lightly dropped twice, fairing need paint done or repaired. I don't need the jacket/helmet though, I might call him later to see if without those he's flexible that way. Hate the color/graphics, but that's not the highest priority. High retail KBB is $8500.

Looking at a few nice ones tonight and this weekend, I'm pretty sure I'll grab one.

Deal of the decade! Hence why I'm taking so long and being picky until now. Now I just want a damn bike. There's an '09 Gix1k with only 400 miles, for $10k at a dealer. Showed it to my friend who's looking for a near-new Suzuki.

Ok thanks, I see now. The two new gaps at bottom-center, smoothing out the center verticle nose ridges, and addition of the reflector strips. But otherwise pretty subtle, dunno if it's worth the hassle of a full front-piece swap, heh, imo. I'd just live with the original front end.

Ghosty, have you considered a FZ1? It has a R1 engine and 95% of the R1's power but cheaper, cheaper insurance, way more comfortable and way more versatile.

The FZ1/6 is great for sport riding, sport touring, communting, ect. They're the best jack of all trades bikes out there. When I had my R1 (the one I crashed right in front of you a few years ago =P ) I started riding my FZ6 while that was in the shop.

After I got the R1 back I continued to choose to ride the FZ6 because it was so much better. Just food for thought.

Last week I picked up a beautiful '08 R1 with only 3700 miles, for $7200. Sapphire Blue, very clean, no white stripes, just the Yami logo at the bottom. Stock, except Corbin seats, sliders, tail kit, & flush-turns. A great start! No pics yet, but y'all know what that gen of R1 looks like.

Originally he was asking $8500, but I held out for a few weeks, then he dropped it to $7500. I told him I'd come up and buy it with $7200 cash that night. After a long pause he agreed, hahaa. Decent deal for a low miles '08, imo. Registration/taxes killed me, almost $700. :(

Rode up to Epic Motosports dyno day on Saturday, looked around but it was after dyno'ing was done. Got some nice bikes they're working on in there. Haven't been riding to work because I've been super sick earlier this week. I hate having a helmet on with a runny nose, coughing, etc., lol. Can't wait to get on it tomorrow though. I'm on call this week so probably can't do the CSC n0ob ride Sunday. :(

Might need a new rear tire, so shopping for that soon. This being Colorado, I'm gonna get the best tire that will work in rain too, not the very stickiest. Also gonna shop for exhaust. Yoshi, Akro, GYTR? Is Micron bad as someone told me? I mean it's just mufflers, can't imaging too much difference in sound. The deeper and growlier the better, heh. Need to listen to Youtube vids. Tempted to do a full exhaust w/ header/mid instead of just cans, but how much better than the stock system is that?

Also deciding between RapidBike, Bazazz & PCV. On CRN a few people recommended RB, two for BZ, and two people were against PC altogether. Multiple issues and everything piggybacks. Leaning towards RB, even though I heard U.S. support sucks.

oh10raven
Thu May 17th, 2012, 02:57 PM
Sweet, sounds like a good deal!

There's enough tire threads on here, so plenty of info there.

I think exhaust is really just a personal preference, especially if you're just doing slip-ons or 3/4. Listen to clips, look at pic's and decide. There are some really good deals on used systems that pop up on R1-forum.com, as well as nice discounts from vendors that might be worth taking advantage of.

I'd say skip the PC and go with the Flash-Tune interface. Flash a PC map directly to your ECU and eliminate the piggyback. Sounded like someone else with a 08' R1 wanted to go in on the interface a while back, maybe they still do?

Tylar
Thu May 17th, 2012, 04:56 PM
Also gonna shop for exhaust

congrats on finding one, i'm pretty sure, based on your description, that I saw this one on CL.

There are some nice looking and nice sounding exhausts. If i was inclined to spend the money, I'd be hard pressed to do Graves or FMF. I baffled my 08's stock cans, and it's pretty obnoxious. If I gutted/removed the CAT, it'd be even moreso.

PM me and we can hook up for you to hear in person if you wish.

Again, congrats!
