When Chris S. had his tire problem in Walden a month or so ago, and we spent hours trying to fix it with 2 different patch kits (mine and his), and neither they nor a can or 2 of fix-a-flat worked, I thought I'd find out if anyone had experience with any. I had the Progressive Suspension kit, and Chris had the Slime kit, and neither worked. I'd like to maybe get another kit before I start doing long rides this summer.

Thanks!

I carry a plug kit, CO2 cartridges, and a slime mini comp on longer trips.

I've used plugs like this at least twice successfully on rear tire punctures, and I carry them with me all the time. If this is what you had, then maybe the hole was too big or you didn't do it right.

I've also heard a lot of good reviews on these:

I carry a short barreled bicycle pump stuffed into the tail of the bike. Not as expedient as CO2, but it doesn't run out.

Oh, and that canned shite you blow into the tire has never worked for me on a bike.

Lastly, Ride On sealant (http://www.ride-on.com/motorcycle-formula-mot.html) may be a good preventative option.

I think it was not only the size of the puncture, but that it also seemed more of a tear than a hole. He was probably doing over 100 when he picked up whatever it was, and when it came around from the bottom of the tire it hit and damaged his hugger and ripped whatever it was back out of the tire. That was the kit he had, and I had a different one. He had to buy a new tire which sucked because that one WAS brand new.

Thanks!

A friend of mine had the mushroom plugs like the picture. He had a leak in the Viffer, and the plug held until he got up to 50-55mph or so, and then shot out. He stuck another one in and rode back to town.. again, it held just long enough to hit hwy speed and psssshhhhhtttt ...

I think those are only meant to limp down to the closest shop where they can put in a proper patch from the inside of the tire.
