might be a dumb question but I'm not from around here and I don't know what fire bans cover

best bet is to check with the specific venue.

The state wide ban doesn't include public displays, but numerous promoters have cancelled anyways.

As for downtown, check the rapids website for anything going on @ Mile High and the rockies for coors field.

The Glendale one is actually pretty good, and is on July 3rd so you can go to that and another on the 4th if you like.

The school of mines usually has an awesome show, but not sure if they will still be doing it this year.

I'm amazed Estes still has theirs planned after this weekend. Over a lake or not, that just seems effing stupid.

Assume not, they won't decide for sure until July 1st. From Golden.com website, in reference to School of Mines:

The City has a fire ban (http://www.cityofgolden.net/latest-news/city-fire-ban-now-in-effect/) in effect. Many people are starting to wonder whether we’ll have fireworks on the 4th of July. The City Manager announced at last week’s City Council meeting that they would make a final decision on July 1st, but unless we have a significant amount of rain between now and then, they will likely be postponed.

The Arvada one is across the street from my condo. It's an awesome show, but get there early because parking is a bitch.

This will be our first fourth here in Denver, my wife still hasn't decided which one to go to. A couple of interesting ones that I have seen in the past was watching the fireworks off the Navy Pier from the observation deck of the Sears Tower. Another nice one was night sailing on Lake Hefner in OKC and watching all of the fireworks shows from all around town.
