I would like to see about putting together some kind of fundraiser to help the fire victims. I'm not really sure where to start but I know we have awesome people/resources here and I think we could do something great.

It would be awesome if we could make it an event somewhere with bands, raffles, food, drink, etc. But I would really like to do something even if that's just taking donations at a park BBQ or something.

Good idea. I did not see this before I posted in the Non bike discussion. I'm down and would be willing to make a donation. Are you going to head this up?

Also possibly a list of people who are willing to take victim(s) in for awhile if their homes get ruined.

Kawasaki Rob- PM if need a place to stay I can take 1 person-or- a couple. Unfortunately my place is not that big but their is a spare bedroom.

I am willing to head this up. Obviously it will take some support but as stated, I would like to do something.

As far as places to stay and storage and such, that thread is located here:

I'm thinking more along the lines of an event where everyone can bring clothes and other items as well as donate cash. And also hang out and have some food and drink.

 I am sure we have plenty of kids clothes and adult clothes, toys, canned food, and essentials we can donate to people.

Maybe we can organize like a special bike night for this. I'm going to talk to mike ward to see if we can do a fundraiser based on service that comes in.

Awesome idea! When you come up with the preliminary logistics, I'd be happy to throw this up on CRN for all the car guys that can participate. The majority are actually in or from the Springs!

I've heard the two best ways to get your funds where they're needed most is to donate to the American Red Cross and/or Salvation Army, as the two main repositories for the Waldo Canyon fire. Something to think about when deciding what to do with all your collections. Maybe split it half/half between those two, unless people have other organizations to add.

Copied from my post in the Wildfire Animal thread:

PET EVACUATION RESOURCES:

Rocky Mountain Health Care Services is offering a shelter option and can take small pets with evacuees. They are located on 310 S. 14th St. Call 719-641-2747.

As for clothes and stuff, here is the Care & Share info for the Springs:

My friends just went to a dollar store and bought a ton of needed stuff, and dropped it off at Care & Share:

They are still in desperate need of toothpaste, mouthwash, water, shampoo, diapers, fem products, baby powder, non perishable foods, please help if you can.

I think there'd be a lot of logistics in a poker run, and I'd also like to be in a position to accept clothing and other items that may not fit on a bike. With a stationary event we can pull more people.

I'm thinking of splitting between the High Park and the Waldo.

Ha! That was actually my least favorite design. Didn't like the conotation of seeing the state emblem burning, but I imagine it's one of their better sellers. And hey.... whatever helps the cause.

I've ordered a few myself. Kind of passing this around and getting a lot ?'s about the credibility of the donations actually going where they're saying. Anyone help with this?

That was my first thought. With things like this a lot of scams pop up.

Guess it's a group of t-shirt designers with individual business links if you want to try to verify if they're legit. Their FAQ has tried to answer some questions. Looks like they're splitting donations 50/50 between Care & Share and Colorado RedCross:

I've seen that section, and for me, it's enough. Not dropping a ton of cash here. Others aren't so trusting I guess.

Same here, don't think $20 is too much to worry about. IF it was a scam, those designers are all in cahoots and need to be beaten badly and jailed for pulling something so elaborate off.

The only question I have is what percentage they allocate to production costs, but they sound pretty legit about finding cheap sources of materials, inks, etc.

Racines restaurant is matching donations. Supporting that and going down there as a group might be better then trying to do our own thing as it means more money to the cause.

Are you guys up for that?

I am pretty sure wildfiretees.com (http://www.wildfiretees.com/about) is NOT a scam (I'm not affiliated in any way). I heard about it on the news last night. Additionally,

- The Colorado Springs Business Journal (http://csbj.com/2012/06/27/springs-designers-launch-t-shirt-projectraise-money-for-wildfire-relief/) mentions it
- A video of the cause was featured on KRDO News 13 (http://www.krdo.com/news/Wildfire-tee-shirts-benefit-Colo-charities/-/417220/15328712/-/14ecwtr/-/index.html)
