I'd like to find a good dirt area (trails, relatively flat and open) for teaching my kid to ride. Where are any good places?

You could go up by the central city cemetery or I would rather suggest IMI motorsports. They've got lots of flat space and wide trails towards the south for about $12

The area around the Central City cemeterys is almost as bad as Rampart on the weekends. A lot of stupid people riding to fast for their abilitys and the amount of people. There are a lot of nice dirt trails off of hwy 119 between Black Hawk and Rollinsville or there are some nice trails around Idaho Springs/Georgetown.

Are you on supermoto bikes or knobbies?

Ok yea the areas mentioned will work, but since you put this in the supermoto forum I wasn't sure. But you could go to IMI also they have beginner areas for dirt besides the pavement. And no membership is required.

My favorite place to go ride dirt lately has been Watkins. They do a good job prepping the main and the kids track and intermediete track are nice too. Lastly, they have a big open with some hills area just to tool around.
