So, after 7 years and 35k miles (almost none last year due to VDub Love) it was time to say goodbye to the Zed, though a co-worker bought it so I'm sure I'll see it here and there. Thought it was a technology, looks, & renewed moto excitement time.

Here she is, 2003 SV1000N, the only year they imported the naked liter. Mods/Things I've noticed - New tires, rear cowl, bar end mirror (just one, never knew I like them so much, it actually works quite well!), different bars, grab bar delete, dual carbon fiber Yoshimura RS-3's (love how it's still barely warm after hours of riding), frame sliders, tank protector, smaller front and rear LED Blinkers, fender eliminator.

He also obviously included the original bars, rear seat, mirrors, bar ends, and grab bar (is this actually helpful/safe for passengers? I never told anyone to use the small one on the back of the ZX.)

The best part might be how immaculate it looks and it has only 5900 miles on it, the guy I bought it from only put 800 miles on it since he bought it (maybe understandable as his garage had 4 bikes in it)

Posted on FB but I figure I should hang out on the CSC more (still waiting on the tapatalk plugin!) Without further ado

Nice bike! I'm pretty sure they had the naked in 2004 though.

I used to feel the same way and kind of still do about the semi-faired version but no pun intended I think this naked bike is very sexy and the condition so pristine with grey and black offsetting each other!!

Soooo....tell me about the gas mileage it gets Stuart

If anyone doesn't know Stuart is obsessed with gas mileage in his car and will tell you a 20 page essay on it :D

Congrats man...about time!!

EPA Says 41, we shall see. Never really cared about the MPG on my bikes. The 11 got 40-47 depending on driving style.

Always loved the look and sound of the SV1000's. Congrats

That is a gorgeous looking bike!

She is a spitting image of my 'ol SV, (which I JUST sold), except you've got 2 pipes and another 350cc's... (and a visibly mounted license plate ;))

I'm super excited for you. My SV got between 44 and 52 mpg! One of the best bikes around.

Once I put some new tires on my new baby- i'd love to trot the canyons with ya and see how she runs!

Congrats dude,
-Chris

Sounds good to me.

As for the MPG on the car, Nate's just jealous, and the diesel car was still quite new to me.

P.S. Nate - Made it to Vegas on one tank averaging 50.9 to the gallon for Wüste a couple months back ;)

Stuart and I should be friends. My next car is going to be built and modified with gas mileage in mind. The Jetta was in my head for a long time, but recently my mind has been tinkering with swapping a BMW 35d motor into a 335i coupe, with a 6-speed manual (The 335d never came in manual or a coupe). It will also be modified for gas mileage, and have a custom fuel cell to double (Or more) capacity. Equal length headers, full exhaust, slightly larger turbochargers, huge A/A intercooler, and a mother fucking cold air intake.

And we both ride SV's, though I definitely got the prettier one. I've never been a fan of the N's.

There's a few mods you need to do asap however. First is buying a aTRE. It is amazing how much this thing smooths out power delivery. Won't do much for top end, but the differences from idle to 6,000 are absolutely stunning. It's cheap, and easy to put in. Easy to remove if you ever want to too. Just get the standard one, once it's in you'll never want to remove it.

Next, if you're up for the work, is to bypass the "green connector." It's a connector right on top of the front valve cover (And a pain in the ass to get to), that has the ignition power wire run through it. Basically, too much amperage goes through the under-sized connector, and over time it will melt and eventually fail. There have been several accidents caused by the ignition abruptly stopping. Mine (11,000 miles) looked good still, but I didn't want to take the chance so I bypassed it. It was a pain in the ass, but I've wrecked a bike before by twisting the throttle, getting power, then nothing, so to me it was worth it. You can get a relay, bypass the connector, and there's a couple other fixes. The relay is easy, but I chose to bypass the connector. I think I'm also going to do a relay one of these days.

This mod is one I absolutely love, but you may not. The TL's had a similar shifter, except by design it creates much shorter and more precise shifts. Alternatively, the arm it uses is small enough that it can be installed upside down, there by making the bike shift GP style (1 up 5 down). I did this, and I won't ever own a standard shifted bike again. It took a month to get truly used to it, but now that I am, I'm addicted. It feels so much more natural, and the shorter shifts feel much more precise. I highly reccomend this. If you're not sure, we can trade bikes for a day!

Lastly, have you thought about adding a belly pan, like the S models have underneath? I thought all 1000s had these. Either way you should in my opinion, they look much better!

I've been on sv-portal reading up on some stuff including the deadly green connector, my bike is only at 6k but the previous owner did the dielectric grease trick to it, I may be down for bypassing it... with some help and beers of course ;)

I'll read up on the TRE, as for the belly pan I'm the reverse of you, I love the N look and not so keen on the Semi-faired. Plus I just came from a massive fully faired bike and have been into minimilization recently.

I'd love to meet up and bypass the connector on your bike, with plenty of beer of course. We can put relays on both too, and a fairing so your's stops being so ugly. I'm on the noth side of Colorado Springs.

Maybe we can take the fairing off of yours so that it stops being so ugly, and then we'll both have pretty bikes ;) (Mines faster!)

I'm off the Lincoln exit and have a 3 car garage + beer + parts (we'd need to run to an auto-parts place for the electrics), or I can come down if you've got the garage space.

I'll read up on the bypass and make sure it's something I want to do, based on the bad things I've read like power failure mid turn I'd say as long as the bike continues to start/run then it's a good idea.

Sounds good we can do it at your place. Give me a couple weeks I need to get new tires, and I also want to get a few comfort items (handlebars, seat, and maybe new footpegs).
