I've lived there for 3 years and never had a problem, even being gone for weeks/months at a time. I'm 1 week away from moving to a house with a garage and this happens.

Based on that, I'm guessing that it wasn't pros (who would have nabbed it a long time ago if they wanted it), just some apartment trash teens screwing around.

Bike got recovered! 17th and Independence in Lakewood. Apparently can't be started and they drilled the gas cap lock. Can't pick it up right now and have no place to store it till tomorrow, so having it impounded for day. They're going to dust for prints and hopefully get some off of it and nail the people who did it. Officer said they've had this problem in the apartment complex there before and he's not surprised it turned up there.

Hopefully it's in decent condition. On a side note I think it's bs that you get charged impound fees when they recover the stolen property.

Officer on scene called me and said it appeared in decent shape other than not starting and the drilled locks. I agree on the impound fees, I understand they do have real cost, but you'd think you'd get a discount on it. Fees should only come out to around $150 or so and I'm not sure on repairs, so I'm not sure if my insurance will have have to cover anything or not.

A complete lock set from Suzuki should be about $212 (#37000-29821) includes ignition switch, gas cap, and helmet lock.

You'll probably be getting either a call or a DRZ from me once I get it back.

Glad to hear it was recovered!! Were now at almost 8 weeks with mine, and I've recieved a total of 1 (thats right one....) phone call from the department regarding the case. Have called back multiple times and left voice mail messages stating I would like a return call and nothing.. Insurance has done a cracker jack job as well an I have already got to make 2 monthly bike payments and insurance payments for a bike I no longer own as well!! THEIVES ARE FUCKING AWESOME!! Hope you can get it back in order soon and on the cheap man!

Apparently the raw power of the DRZ was too much for them. Crashed on both sides. I didn't think it was possible, but they crashed it hard enough to actually break something. It consoles me a little that they probably have some pretty nasty road rash now.

Drilling a gas cap out just seems ridic unsafe.

Had to use these in the Navy when we would drill out rivets in the Fuel cell, as far as not dropping metal fragments in the tank? Well id pull the tank if i were you and clean it out.

You learned something today Zach, carry on smartly.
