A "FB friend" posted this picture below, who is a pretty hardcore christian. I can see why she posted it from her point of view as what the "message" says to her. But, me being an agnostic, borderline athiest when I first saw it, my point of view was the opposite. To me it seems as if the picture is mocking jesus, as in: Yeah, they're all made up fictional characters.

Your thoughts? It just seemed interesting to me how one picture could mean 2 complete opposite things to two different people.

What do you think it is supposed to mean?

Point of clarification: Either you're an Atheist or you're not, there is no way to be "borderline" regarding a position that's an absolute--just like you cannot be "borderline" pregnant, either you are or you are not.

And I think it means Jesus violated copyright and trademarks...

Agnostic?

Agnostic takes a firm belief that the truth about the existence of any omnipresent being is unknowable. Very clearly, not wavering at all.

Ok, to clarify a little. I would say I'm agnostic, but the older I get I seem to be moving more and more torwards athiest. So "borderline" does exsist in my world.
Seems the only lingering uncertainty is due to the brainwashing I received as a child.
Anywho, wasn't trying to make this a religious debate. more about the pictures meaning.

You realize 'atheist' has faith that a being doesn't exist. It's as faithful as any other belief in a being. Agnostic is the only logical choice.

Definition of AGNOSTIC

1
: a person who holds the view that any ultimate reality (as God) is unknown and probably unknowable (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/unknowable); broadly : one who is not committed to believing in either the existence or the nonexistence (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/nonexistence) of God or a god

Jeez, don't be so militant.

And the broad definition applies to me as well.

I don't prescribe to a STRICT definition of Agnostic. I consider myself being mildly Agnostic. Maybe God/Goddess/Deities/Aliens are all too advanced concepts for our primitive brains to even grasp or understand. Maybe there are dimensions beyond our puny "three dimensions + time". I feel spiritual, and am open to many ideas, especially taking into account this amazing beautiful MIRACULOUS "Goldilocks" planet we have the privilege of living on. How about hearing all those stories about people who've been technically/clinically brain dead then returned? All thousands of them are complete insane liars working together in a huge global consiparcy? I don't think so.

Throw in a sprinkling of some Intelligent Design ideas too, because I firmly believe every amazing creation (including the intelligent human down to a single little one-celled organism) around us most likely didn't just happen by a big bang, random chance, and evolution ALONE. In the very least, life had "help" along the way, IMO. (yes like in 2001 where the alien artifact jump-started the tool-use in the prehistoric Neanderthals). Complex living thinking organisms are WAY TOO ADVANCED and complicated to just be a product of evolution, imo. There is intriciate machinery working on a cellular and molecular level, that is way beyond our full comprehension. Common sense dicatates this is real evidence of a higher power and level of DESIGN, beyond humans. We are NOT the pinnacle.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/SpectralCat/Emoticons/hippie.gif

Add to that, years of being a Biology major has convinced me that all the thousands of intriciate chemical and molecular interactions and processes inside every living cell is a miracle and "proof of a higher design", to me. It's all working like amazing clockwork, this is TOO PERFECT to be just random chance and evolution. I'm not an evolution-denier, but Anthropology is my minor so I've taken more than my fair (huge) share of "evolution as FACT" in college.

Lol, could you please find something less concise?

Probably. The subject matter is vast and countless books, papers and theses have been written on it.

Here, try: http://tinyurl.com/cjb4c9m

The key point that Capt'n Good Vibes makes is here:

Proof of God
Here there comes a practical question which has often troubled me. Whenever I go into
a foreign country or a prison or any similar place they always ask me what is my religion.
I never know whether I should say "Agnostic" or whether I should say "Atheist". It is a
very difficult question and I daresay that some of you have been troubled by it. As a
philosopher, if I were speaking to a purely philosophic audience I should say that I ought
to describe myself as an Agnostic, because I do not think that there is a conclusive
argument by which one prove that there is not a God.

On the other hand, if I am to convey the right impression to the ordinary man in the
street I think I ought to say that I am an Atheist, because when I say that I cannot prove
that there is not a God, I ought to add equally that I cannot prove that there are not the
Homeric gods.

None of us would seriously consider the possibility that all the gods of homer really
exist, and yet if you were to set to work to give a logical demonstration that Zeus, Hera,
Poseidon, and the rest of them did not exist you would find it an awful job. You could
not get such proof.

Therefore, in regard to the Olympic gods, speaking to a purely philosophical audience, I
would say that I am an Agnostic. But speaking popularly, I think that all of us would say
in regard to those gods that we were Atheists. In regard to the Christian God, I should, I
think, take exactly the same line.
Basically, it comes down less as Agnostic/Atheist and more as Gnostic vs. Agnostic Atheist...

http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lmp0b4HYWd1qehz59.png

So, again in layman's terms, saying you're "Agnostic" (Agnostic Atheist above) means that you do not KNOW if God exists or not, while "Atheist" (Gnostic Atheist above) means that you "know" (an argument in itself) that God does NOT exist.
The difference in emphasis is the key to the two similar but very different positions.

Sorry, with an estimated 6,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (yes...that many) planets in the visible universe, not to mention who knows we might even be part of a multiverse. Why is it so impossible for all life on this 1 planet to be by chance?

look at that number and think about it.
