Jorge Lorenzo has been a teammate and rival to seven-time MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi since Lorenzo started his premier-class career in 2008, but Lorenzo doesn't rate The Doctor as his most gifted opponent.

That nod of the visor goes to the retiring Casey Stoner.

"It's a little sad to lose a so special rider like Casey," Lorenzo said to Australian media. "He is the most talented rider I have ever seen on the World Championship."

Actually, no. Rossi spent years on the Honda and won a 500cc 2-stroke title in 2001 for them (only one of the current crew to win a title on those beasts), as well as the 2002 and 2003 4-stroke titles. Casey was never the rival Rossi is, and never would be, even if he didn't retire. Per the records, Rossi is second only to the legendary Giacomo Agostini, and may even ecplipse those few remaining records before he retires. I ttthhhink Lorentho ith justh playing mind gameth.......

I gotta agree with CM. Sadly, I think Rossi is a bit past his prime, Lorenzo would be singing a different tune if he had joined the series 2 or 3 years earlier...

i wouldnt be suprissed if a Rossi takes a title next year, on other hand lap times are telling us who is fastest and who is on slow bike at the time .Whatever ... does anyone have video from few last laps of Indianapolis 2012 Moto GP when Steve Rapp throw some slides in front of Lorenzo???

He might be, but, on that POS Ducati, it's hard to tell. I HOPE not becaus if he's not the GOAT, he's certainly second by a huge margin. If he performs like this at Yamaha though, it'll be time to retire. Like Schumacher (in F1) SHOULD have stayed......

Either way, *7* world titles on two and four strokes in the premier class pretty much speaks for itself. I'm not a fan of Stoner.

Yeah, there is no doubting how strong Rossi was in his Honda days. No doubting at all. Even his Yamaha days when Lorenzo was the new guy. Although I have became a Stoner fan, I'm really looking forward to seeing how he performs back on the Yamaha. I hope it's not a disaster and he is still able to hang with the lead guys.

When Rossi passed Stoner in the Corkscrew in 08(?) and won the Catalunya race against Lorenzo 09(?). Pure awesomeness.
