Why not? I like VWs. I have owned 4 before this. I have Fahrvergnügen. :) It's a fun little car with decent power and a whole lot more on tap when I decide to put a few bucks into upgrades. It may not have a shit ton of power but it sure does act like a slotcar in the twisties.

Yes. My wife also drives a VW. ;)

There are plenty of other cars I like. I'm a big fan of fun cars. I do gravitate toward the VW, Audi, Porsche lineage though ;) This Beetle is affordable enough that I can keep and upgrade my FZ1 at my whim. :D

I hear they are working on a Beetle R  And VW Vortex just won the Euro "something or other" category at SEMA with a 500hp version of my car. :D

Not a German car fan to be honest with you lol... A Bettle R huh? Interesting, I do however like that Golf R though but can't justify the price tag lol... It is pretty easy to gain power on the German set ups though, only part I wish Jap cars had more of is options in the ECU flashing/tuning end.

It is a bit shocking how under-tuned they are as delivered from the factory. A simple ECU reflash will gain me 30% more power; upping 200hp to 260hp. :D

The problem is the clutch. I'll have to upgrade that as well if I go any higher than 350hp.

Ignore the haters, VW makes good cars. Congrats man, they've come a long way from the classic days! What kinda MPG is your gas/turbo version getting?

Side-note: People still give me shit for loving 1st-gen Audi TT's (the 225hp hardtop ones), calling them "girlie cars", I call bullshit. One of the manager here roadraces his. I still think they're badass, especially with AWD. Someday I want to pick up a white (or red ALMS) 225 1g hardtop, pretty rare.

Just get rid of it once the warranty is up and you'll be fine.

From 80th and Kip to 120th and Pecos, in stop and go for my morning commute, about 26mpg. From Golden Courthouse to 120th and I-25, about 33mpg...

But I can get those numbers much lower once it's a bit more broken in. ;)

That's hard one if u want true quality but its spendy u want a mtm tune and I would send you to talk to Larry the owner of champagne motors , 303-761-7000 the guy is amazing.
For exhaust work need to know your motor and what u want in the car and would send you to Bryan at Bdm performance exhaust 303-922-5280
Intake systems I dyno tested a few and neuspeed worked best on my 2.0t and 2.5 best place to get it is eBay

One big thing is the tune the giac tune is cheap and pumps more hrp but not reliable
The mtm tune is clean and reliable with a good hrp gain its like doing the Dinan chip on a BMW

3Zero3 Does good work. Like any tuner, you'll get mixed reviews from everyone. The know it alls have the loudest mouths.

I'd ditch that side decal ASAP!

That's a lot of power for a FWD car. My VR6 would spin it's wheels when it only had 190hp after the mods I had done.

Yeah. Off the line it already slips at 200hp. But 2nd gear and up pull hard :D the reflash might make me perfectly happy without any other major mods.

My dream has always been a 1950 Split Window Bug; so rare!

http://static.cargurus.com/images/site/2008/01/16/10/24/1950_volkswagen_beetle-pic-43767.jpeg

In high school I was part of a "Vdub" club; had a Golf GTI. We did a lot of projects on bugs and they are easy and fun to work on. One of my buddies put a Porshe engine in his and we use to go around racing muscle cars and beat them; the look on their faces were priceless! Bug was so fast it would wheelie.

Here is a cool site to buy Vintage VW's http://www.oldbug.com/sales.htm

Never even seen that split window, wild!

Bug fans should hit up Bandimere for their annual VW weekend "Bug-In" race day. I heard lots of crazy built 10 second and faster Beetles. Looks like 7/29/12 was the last one, so sounds like it's still going on.

Pre 67's go for way more than that now too. It's nuts. Also the elusive Notch and squareback.

sweet. i just picked up a new 4dr gti autobahn with dsg this weekend. im super impressed with the overall quality and refinement with the vdubs for the price point. ive been cross shopping all sorts of luxury and sports cars for the last three months before settling on something that can give me a lil something of everything i want. black headliner was the cherry on top, saw the beetle has one too. ive never been a VW fan until driving one so when my friends start hating i just tell them to get in the drivers seat and go. definitely one of those brands where the sum is more than the parts.

I'm stupid with VWs. I can't resist; warts and all. I've always had little problems with stuff but I always come back. :p
