Its going to be a long Monday since our plane from Austin didnt get in until 11:30pm last night. We were able to catch some of the post race shenanigans and scored two VIP grandstand passed for Sundays race. It was amazing seeing everything from that angle. The track is sick... all I could think about was getting a bike on it.

Here are a few pics from the weekend.

Private helicopters coming and going ever 2 minutes. Would have been nicer than waiting in the parking lines

Didn't know you were going. That is a very cool event for sure. F1 is such a production. Lotta money and celebs everywhere. To be at the opening race for that new track is awesome. I very much want to go for GP

It was a ton of fun and Austin is a blast for sure. Met Jesse James when I was checking out the Speed Shop! MotoGP is going to have a blast on this track, so will the fans.

Here are a few panoramic ones off the phone

1st one is from where we were sitting

We were planning on going back after moving up up earlier in the year, sold our house in South Austin in May and are buying a house here now, so we decided against it for this year. We will be going next year, maybe to a couple of different events. We went to the last race at Indy in 2007. Probably go back a bit early and visit some friends.

I had some former co-workers go to the races, one did the downtown shuttle and was back in her apartment an hour after the race, she lives downtown so she didn't have to fight traffic or parking at the garages like many others. Another one did the helicopter shuttle and were in an suite, her husband's boss is a minority partner so they were in an owners box, the one next to them was Epstein's with Gov. Goodhair and McCombs with them.

When I do a (car) racing school, I already plan on going back there for it.

First off, it's a 458.

Next, the brakes being red hot says nothing about the driver riding them or not. The brakes on the 458 are Brembo-supplied carbon ceramic. Even glowing they still will still perform flawlessly. I'd hesitate to say you cannot get the brakes on that car hot enough to where their function would be in the least bit affected.

I've gotten the carbon-ceramic brakes on a 911 glowing, and it still felt every bit as capable as when I got in it. Brake feel, response, and actuation was unaffected.

Awesome pics! Being a HUGE F1 fan, I was very sad to miss this.

That won't happen for MotoGP, nor F1 again, in 2013 :doublefinger:

Nice pics! I didnt want to take my big lens because I rented one when I got down there... Guess what? When I got there it was gone :(

What row were you in? We paid more to be higher (everyone was saying to get above the fence line) but now that I have been there pretty much every seat would have worked, well maybe above row 10 would keep the fence out of most viewing.

For anyone going, turn 12-13 is the best place if you are going to sit in the stands. Not sure if they are planning on keeping the stands or what (then didnt look permanent) but were talking with one of the track designers and he said that all of everyone that helped design was sitting in the top section of those corners with us. He said that they could have gotten tickets anywhere but chose there and I would agree.

All of the Ferrari's were running that way. Those carbon pads are no joke!
It was a little bit of a mind trick to watch how fast (especially the F1) everyone would come into turn 12 and then slow down to make it. It was like they were hitting a net!

Pretty clean racing all around. Only a few accidents.

These guys looked pretty heated for a bit during one of the Ferrari Challenge practice rounds

I paid more to get higher seats as well because I was worried about the fence. We were at turn 12, Section 7, Row 25, Seat 20,21,22.
Definitely turn 12 have the best seats in the house. Better than those ones that costs thousands more. There was a lot of passing going on here, and you have the view of the back straight then turn 12,13,14, and 15. You can even see turn 1 from where we were. Much better than my last race at Montreal.
