Picked it up from Hoot today. (Didn't see a feedback section, but he would rank highly!)

Turns out it leaks a little oil, so I am going to start by taking the fairings off and cleaning the case off and then see where the drip starts (if it leaks enough while not running) and then replace some case gaskets.

Then it will be on to the body.

Trying to decide if I want to make it fancy or just kinda nice.

Plans for riding it would be as a street legal track bike. Probably not fully safety wired for racing, but a bike I am less worried about tipping over to put on the track and to take through things like the Pridmore Star School and such.

Thats all assuming a friend from church doesn't talk me into selling it.

Yee Haw!

Good meeting you and your brother! Next time I'm selling in springtime!

Hope you have fun with it, it was a great first bike.

Oh and make sure to hit up Ezzzy if you want to reprogram your modoor.

Pleasure meeting you as well.

It was a tad bit chilly today.

I am sure it will be fun.

When it got home:

And the project begins...

At least my house was built with the option of a heater duct into the garage. Move a cover plate, cardboard, and duct tape, and voila, heated work area...

Munched left fairing:

Only partially munched right fairing:

Uh, yeah, its leaking oil... Yee haw... Get to do new gaskets:

Really thinking I might just buy one of these (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fairing-Cowl-Bodywork-for-2004-2005-Suzuki-GSXR-600-750-K4-04-05-Unpainted-White-/380555183528?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item589adb45a8&vxp=mtr) $179 fairing kits off of ebay and start with brand new pieces for the whole thing.

Gotta talk to a friend of mine and find out what he would want to do a custom paint job... Who knows.

Found out that the short exhaust on it was actually welded on, so I might have to buy a more complete exhaust kit, or just be happy with what it has on it.

Question for anyone reading this:

As long as I am doing gaskets and such, should I consider doing the oil pickup tube?

I don't intend to stunt the bike at all, just curious if that is something that would be a good idea for a street/track bike?

New gaskets on order.

Bidding for much better, but still not perfect, OEM plastics on Ebay.

Going to have to either paint, or consider a vinyl wrap. Instead of custom paint a vinyl wrap is sounding nice as it simplifies the entire project considerably.

Anyone here done a vinyl wrap? Pictures? Thoughts? Etc?

And the project continues...

Got the better plastics on Ebay bought. They're on the way.
Bought a rear seat cowl to have wrapped when I do the bike. (The bike came with the rear seat).
Have decided to do a wrap. Paging Racedk6 :D

On to the progress and pictures.

The nose fell off... Literally only held on by the mirrors and the wiring harness, and the six side fairing bolts when they are on there. The exhaust came off as well to make more room to see where the oil leak is, check the pan seal, and figure out what to do for exhaust.

The mirrors are in rough shape, the left one is dented and rashed, and the mounting bracket won't tighten down enough to hold it firmly. The right one is not in too bad of shape.

Since one of the mirrors has to be replaced, and finding a matching single would be kinda hard, I checked fitment of one of my GSXR1K mirrors on the 600. I actually like the rigid mount and integrated turn signals of my 1K. The mounting system is a little different (1k has studs on the mirror, whereas the 600 has a threaded hole in the windshield support and a bolt), but with a little creative drilling, I think I can make the 1K mirrors fit and work well. The wiring plugs between the two bikes are actually the same which makes that easier.

Once I get the 1K mirrors here, I will take pictures showing exactly what I have to do to make them work, in case anyone else wants to try it.

And what the exhaust looks like. Seriously looks like it has a Autozone or Checker "set-screw" exhaust tip welded to the header.

Seriously considering doing an 01-06 GSXR 1000 header, and finding a used mid-pipe and muffler.

Here's to hoping my gaskets will be here tomorrow or Wednesday.

Well, I wanted a winter project... :o :wtf::up: (progression of thoughts as things get revealed...)

(Its actually kind of fun, and I knew it would take some elbow grease when I bought it)

Thanks for the offer, but I am thinking along the lines of "change out the coolant, unplug and tape lights, and be ready for a track day" type of track bike.

Its primary purpose would be street riding.

More stuff in the works. Updates to follow.

Looks like the color will match on the top of the fairings and the tank. Nose should be the same, or very similar.

Also struck a deal with the guy at my church. He is going to buy it from me once I finish it. It'll be fun to do this, make a little for my effort, and bring a sort of rough bike back to nice.

I see you ordered from DHgate.com

That's the same vendor I used for my plastics. Great deals!!

You're the reason I looked at them again.

All the prices I had seen on vinyl wraps were $300 or so for just the vinyl, without installation.

No brainer for me. I don't have time right now to figure out how to install a vinyl wrap. I wanted something that was pretty straightforward.

Voila, for only $33.35 more than the rough budget numbers for vinyl.

Oh yeah, I made sure to use a CC that I don't care about and isn't tied to my account just in case.

New clutch cable is here for it.

Very nice shape stock exhaust picked up off of Craigslist for $65.

Its all coming together.....

Apparently shipping the color scheme and model year plastics I ordered was too difficult.

This should be exciting...
