So-

My mother is having a heck of a time getting through the bureaucracy that is the VA system to try and get skilled-nursing assistance for my grandfather. It's unclear how much effort my mother has put into the process yet, most of her information is via people she works with.

If anyone knows of any resources, tips, hints, tricks or otherwise useful information, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks!

There is a person that deals with vets issues at her congressman, find out who that person is and get in contact with them.

Hss she applied to Medicare? Needs to be over 65 or disabled (or Kidney failure), but they cover skilled nursing if she had at least a 3 day inpatient stay in a hospital. I know healthcare, just not VA stuff...sorry.

We did this dance already, they discharged him a day shy to avoid putting him in. My in-laws have some relation that work in the VA system in the PAC NW, so we'll see what that yields.

Thanks for the input, everyone.

The VA is horrible. The shit my dad has to go through is unreal. It's an absolute shame that this is the level of care we give the people that fought for our country.

Government gives better care with Medicaid (for the poor); so guess it is better to be a lazy un-employed lady with 5 kids (not all people of course) rather than fight for our country. Really is sad :(

Tylar, I just got done giving two 1 hour presentations on this topic in Colo Springs today. I do not know yet when we will have a presentation in Denver again. I do VA Pension planning as part of my estate planning work. Feel free to shoot me an PM with your contact info. This a really complex area and dealing with the VA does not make it easier... .

Here a link that might help: http://benefits.va.gov/PENSIONANDFIDUCIARY/pension/vetpen.asp

The DAV is damn near almost impossible to get ahold of, and when you do your case worker is never available, and when you leave a message one time every week then they call you back.

Then when you have your evaluation the doctors job is to tell you all of the things that will be in the report, that the review board completely fucking skips over because there job is to make sure you don't get shit!
