CSC'er (Colorado Shooting Club?):

I have a friend that would like to go up into the nearby foothills or close mountains to take some ballistic gel molds he made to test out different rounds on.

Where is the closest place around he might be able to do that?
I had no idea since I never have gone anywhere but indoor ranges.

Advanced appreciation for assistance conveyed.

Springs, right? Can't shoot in El Paso county, but as long as you're on National Forest land in Teller county, you're golden.

Ummm... not that far south.
They live in Arvada / Thornton / Northglenn area (I forget which)...

So something maybe I should be specific and say I'm guessing they'd be wanting something in the range between say Boulder as the northern end and Castle Rock as the southern end of the travel zone - but obviously west of those markers.

Allenspark dump shooting site was reopened I think, its up the 7 out of Lyons near the 72 intersection, it was closed for a while but I heard it was reopen but havent been up in a while. Anyone else know if it was reopen? If you use zoom in with google maps satellite image, 7 (St Vrain) and 72 (P2P) zoom in you can see a cleared area just off the 7 thats the shooting area.

There's the place at the top of HP Hill, north of the scenic turnout.

This is going to sound ridiculous - but after 20+ years of riding... where exactly is HP Hill by definition along Hwy 67? I've never quite understood where that was, probably because I was enjoying the ride too much.

Well, it's not on 67, which you don't pick up til Deckers. The road south from Pine Jct on Hwy 285 is CO Road 126, or Deckers Road. HP hill starts a half mile south of the turnout and you go down, down to the narrows. The shooting area is a half mile north of the turnout on the west side. Dirt road there that you can see on google earth.

I have been looking for just a good local place to shoot inside. I'm in Longmont and the only place I have found so far is the police shooting range. I hear there are a bunch of dicks that shoot there..... So, any other suggestions?

I use the Firing Line on I-225 and I-70, best indoor range I've found so far, and cheaper than Silver Bullet

Is the Longmont range the new one? Blue core is about the best around here.

There is a spot off the P2P hwy in Gilpin Cty past Blackhawk I want to check out.
There is a dirt road on your left past the highschool and you follow that a couple miles. You can see it on Google earth.

Try The Shootist - off Santa Fe in Englewood.
MUCH better circulation IMO than Firing Line. I live way close to Firing Line but will drive down to Shootist instead.
