So, here's an interesting little tidbit. SCCA just finished an event at Circuit of the America's, where Formula 1 ran last November, and there were several Colorado drivers there.

I compared the COTA lap times of 6 Colorado drivers to their 2012 HPR lap times, and came up with an averaged "correction factor" of .7855 (ranged from .7792 to .7886, so pretty consistent).

When you apply that correction factor to the F1 COTA Pole time from last November (1:35.657) you come up with a theoretical time for an F1 car at HPR of 1:15.140!

Those cars are amazing!

And drivers! Interesting data.

Pettiford tweeted he got the lap record in T1 with his Corvette.

Who has the outright lap record at HPR? Was it a bike or car?

I think it was a car in the high 1 30s, but dont quote me on that.

Overall lap record is a 1:35.323 by a DSR. DSR is a "D" Sports Racer, which is an SCCA classification, it's basically an 800 pound, 23" tall, carbon fiber go-cart with lots of downforce and a built 1000cc sportbike motor.

F1 cars dont work without downforce. no air or speed up pikes peak. wouldnt work powerband wise either and im not sure they could even apex the switchbacks with their wheelbase/ride height. purpose built open cockpit, formula style vehicles are insane in hill climbs around the world but as far as dropping a car straight out of f1 i dont think itd excel at all. could be wrong though.

There've been a couple of older ex-Indy/Champ cars that did Pikes Peak in years past. Of course they had been heavily modified to include higher ride heights, and huge sprint car type wings to get more downforce.

Hpr is too rough by f1 standards. Would have to raise the ride height and soften the the suspension too much to get a good time. Tire temps would also be an issue

As for ppir, again downforce would be the issue
