Does anyone know of a place that you can shoot a 50 cal rifle that's not too far away?

There is a range out near Byers and BluCore in Lakewood allows 50cal on there indoor 100 yard range. Brass cased, lead only ammo.

That might work. How far does the range go out to?

I think 100 yards is a little too close for this rifle. :D

It's not mine. It's my uncle's, I haven't seen it yet either but it was a custom build from Barrett I believe. It's a bolt action. We're just trying to find a place that we can shoot it.

Oh, I'm fully aware, but it's the only indoor range in Colorado that even allows it, and it's the closet thing to Denver that you can shoot at. You didn't specify you wanted 500+ even though it could be generally assumed.

I had look that up as from being there i just knew it was big. :) It looks like you can go out to 220 yards:

Ranges:

There is a 40 feet handgun range and a 50-100yrds rifle range.

For high-powered rifles and skeet shooting, we have a 220yd range. Shooters must shoot at 200-220yrds only

Sounds like what I got to shoot a couple rounds through recently:

National forest or Pawnee.

Let us know how it goes.

.50's are fun. But precision handloads for them suck to make...

Just mark off a 1000M range in the national forest and have fun. That's what I do. :eyebrows:

National Forest will work, just be very careful about anyone being in the vicinity or anywhere behind your backstop because of the distance capability. The shooting club I used to belong to in Byers has a 1000 yd range, and they allowed everything except 50cal because if you miss, it's going over the hills and probably gonna land in some farmer's house 2 miles out. (No idea why they didn't limit stuff like .338 Lapua as well.)

Also, if you go to national forest, make sure you're not in El Paso county. Teller county is fine, but El Paso has some sort of law against it.

CSC range day? Not only would I love to try that 50 bmg, but I'd also like to see how far out my .308 Remington is accurate in the new configuration.

Nice .308, I've been thinking about a setup myself. I'd be down for a Saturday or Sunday trip up to Pawnee

Ah, yes - the gun club with a motorcycle problem strikes again! I'm down for some long-range work. Anybody want to go in early November? Pawnee is a good choice.

Yeah in El Paso there isn't much BLM land(if any) and you can only shoot on private property. I shoot at a friends house out East here in El Paso county and it's a 600 yard range. Which even at 600 yards my 7 mag isn't even being tested much, let alone my friends AR50. Though it's the longest we can go so it works. Main thing is having a good earth berm for a backstop. Earth is still the best bullet stopper and if you've got a berm tall and deep enough, even the mighty .50 cal will get stopped quick. We also have a steel gong set up that manages to handle all of our rounds with ease. My 7mm won't get it to swing on the chain and the .50 will get it to swing but just barely. Solid steel will own lead all the time....

I had a Barrett M99, I shot mine at Ben Lomond. Private range so you need to be a member or know someone. CRC doesn't allow them nor does Golden Gun Club... Pawnee Grasslands is a good option.

I didn't find it fun to shoot. For me it was the weirdest sensation. The concussion from it would momentarily "ring my bell". For a split second after I pulled the trigger, it was like; "Where am I"... oh at the range.

But my buddy really enjoyed it. The concussion didn't bother him.

Enjoy!

If you can find the ammo you're more than welcome lol.

I finally found enough relatively cheap 223 and 556 to fill all of my pre ban at mags.

Oh and if you're looking for 22, show up to the bass pro opening day. We're looking to open November 21st, and at my last count, we have about 150k rounds of 22.

I would. I picked up a few new rifles lately (although not yet mounted with optics so they're really lame), but would really like to try my new 308.

I'll bring my Powerline 880.

I'd be down for a Sunday trip. I've got a couple rifles and handguns to shoot. I'll even bring my O/U and slinger if people want to shoot some trap.
