I have been out of the scene for a while but came across an opportunity that I couldnt pass up.

1996 GT Zaskar frame. The same size/color that I saved every penny for and bought in 1997.

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p55/Ezzzzy1/Zaskar1_zpsf22f8040.jpg (http://s125.photobucket.com/user/Ezzzzy1/media/Zaskar1_zpsf22f8040.jpg.html)

I bought just the frame but this is it before it was stripped down.

I will be going with full XTR components and will be trying to keep everything from that time period. I am looking for components if anyone has any.

Will probably have some questions as the build progresses. Any direction would be appreciated!

Sorry all my parts from that time period are long gone (or on my townie bike), but I still have the tools to do most of the work. Thus, if you run into any issue or have questions just PM me.

I have to ask....why? Is this just to rebuild the old school bike you had? So much better components out there as the bike world changes very fast. For probably less than you are going to put into that bike, you could just get a new one that will outperform it :dunno:

I actually thought of doing this for a GT Mach1 I (almost had as a kid; had to settle for the Interceptor after my drug addict step father sold mine from under the Xmas tree).

Memories; this was similar mine

I have a couple of XT M750 left shifters. They aren't XTR and there is only lefts so probably won't help much but you can have them if you are interested. I also built MTBs from scratch so I have most tools including stuff like truing stand and headset press too.

Blast from the past maing! Its going to be for riding around the block with the kids not getting crazy off road so "performance" isnt really an issue.

I figure I will spend about $600 but will have something that I built and even probably be worth more in the years to come.

Yeah growing up we were all about our bikes. Always wanted a Dyno or a GT and finally got the Interceptor and was soooo stoked. All my buddies had way cooler bikes though as they had the cool GT and Dyno freestyle bikes....those gyros, pegs, etc. We rode everywhere on our bikes and eventually built a 1/4 pipe and messed around with that a bit

Blast from Past...gyros...this was the bike envy of our trailer park crew; one kid had it!

I appreciate the offer! I am pretty set on going with XTR though.

I bought a stand but was figuring I would need a headset press and a few other things.

This should be a learning adventure.

I couldn't afford XTRs cause the parts constantly broke on me, so no spares:( You sure can borrow my Park press though, it's expensive but rarely used so probably not worth buying unless you are planning to build at least several bikes. I live in Highlands Ranch right off Quebec and C470 so just a 15 -20 min ride from you. Building bikes, even the pedal ones, is fun! Enjoy:up:

I was asking at the local shop what the big difference between LX and XTR and thats more or less what they said. Cheaper to replace parts etc. I think if I was planning on putting the beat down on it I would probably go the LX route....

I appreciate it! I will definitely let you know when I am at that point!

Thanks man!

OMG...yup my dream Mach 1 (same color and stickers even!) If my horrible step father was still alive I'd seriously get that and rebuild it just to throw it at him. Jerk literally bought that bike me for and put it under Xmas tree for a week; all my bike buddies saw it. Woke up Xmas morning and ran to tree and it was gone...went up his nose instead. Worse XMAS ever sitting their crying all day as my friends came over to do all the rides we planned. Ok, enough sad story.

Tempting......I just feel it would sit in my garage not being used.....if not how odd a 37 year old man on his dirt race bicycle

No! You buy that fucker and set it in the living room just to look at!

I rock so many things that my parents never let me have, its not even funny.

I bought a Jordan Flight Suit from 1987, and some Jordan 3s and original Oakley M frames
Its crazy how many things people have that they think are old and junk. I just buy it up!

Its fun!

Its fun! I'll even set out a XMAS tree up and dress in my transformer PJ's! Then after go bang my wife with those on after  :D

Want to buy some old Fubu, Boss, No Limit, and Tommy Hilfiger Jerseys? In HS I spent so much of my job money on those and never had the heart to toss them or donate them; I would get them for like $50 a pop which was a huge deal to me back then! Wonder if they are worth anything now...especially used

Still got all my baseball/baketball/football/Garbage Pail Kids cards. All my Transformers, GI Joes, and He-Men. Even got Castle gray Skull still!

Yeah no way! 95% of that show Hoarders are sick people! They are not hoarders when they throw their used pizza boxes on floor or let their cats shit all over...that is sick and lazy! Shows needs to be changed to "F*cked-up Nasty Lazy People"...so gross some of the houses I have seen on that show!

Richard was trying to sell the shop last year. Pretty sure he's planning to retire. My other source closed shop too. Use whatever you can find LX or up. The only real diff is weight and not as nice of finish. LX or XT will work just as well as XTR for your purpose.

There is a fair amount of stuff on ebay! I picked up a set up XTR hubs that are original Zaskar builds for $100 and they are new!

Im going to head down Analyst today and see what they have.
