So I figured since I'm a little behind on my racebike build I would post up the progress and maybe someone can learn something. The only thing different is I'm going to do this KBPI style, you'll vote on what parts/products are used to build our Kawasaki 636! So lets get this started!

Big thanks to Nori and all the guys are G-Force for hooking me up with a Black Metallic 636! KHI traction control and the 636 cc's make this a great SuperSport for the track.

Now bikes are like girls, all you really want to do is get thier clothes off! So while I do that the first order of business is start deciding on parts! Look for upcoming post to vote on Clip ons, Exhaust, Bodywork, etc.!

So first order of business is the Clip Ons!

Brands:
Woodcraft - 2 Piece Design makes install a breeze
Renthal - Cool markings to get everything lined up
Vortex - Oldie but goodie

You make the choice!

So as someone looking to build a new bike in the near future. What are the advantages of the aftermarket clip-ons vs. the stock ones?

konichd
Wed Aug 13th, 2014, 01:05 PM
One thing is adjustability - Most stock clip ons are bolted to the underside of the triple tree and thus a fixed position. Aftermarket you can adjust the position to suit your style and egronomics

Replacement - Crashing is inevitable, aftermarket clip-ons allow you to remove the bar quickly and easily. Replacement bars are 10-30 dollars, stock clip ons are over $100 per side and require you to drop the forks or remove the top triple to replace them.

Even though a small amount, aftermarket clip ons do reduce weight as well.

I don't listen to KBPI.

=)
Enjoy the build.

However... Do you carry any fender eliminator kits for the F3? Preferably that are not $200.

MV F3, say hello to Italy Barn! ;)

In other words we don't as none of our suppliers make them for that bike as the customary marinara sauce is just too messy at the present time

For the handles, I say go with whatever you can get replacement parts for the cheapest. This is probably why I have never considered racing...

 I wish I had that problem with my race bikes... I've always liked the convenience of the Woodcraft clamp and since there is really so little difference between them, that has been the deciding factor.

Have never had an issue with woodcrafts. How is the cost per tube between the two. The cheaper one would win.

Woodcraft/Vortex are $15 and the Renthal are $39

I sold my 2011 ZX6R and now our 2014 needs to be built. We should have this project finished up in time to make the last MRA round at PPIR!

Ha! Bueller. That actually would be pretty fuckin' rock & roll, a bike with all US currency as the livery. $100s, $50s, $5s... whatever, all stuck to the bike smoothly, then just clear coated over.

Do it DK. You'll get an album cover for that kind of style.

Woodcraft clipons win! I'll get those installed this weekend as well as thier fancy lever guard (in Kawi Green!)

Now lets move onto the QS system (HM vs. Dynojet vs Bazzaz) and the tank grips (Tech Spec C3 vs Stomp Grip)

I was really impressed by the support from Bazzaz when I had their system on the Aprilia. The new load cell QS is pretty awesome too. They would get my vote.

good choice on the woodcraft clip ons. I like that the clamps are fully split, so installation and replacement is possible without removing the fork tubes or top triple.

Clip ons are installed. Woodcraft 3 peice design makes it easy like Rybo says. Also got a lever guard (Kawi Green of course!) to round out the package. Driven supplied me with a set of Superbike grips that are much softer than the rock hard stock grips. I LIKIE!

The new Bazzaz QS is a strain shifter with about infinate adjustability as far as sensitivity. You can also change it from standard to GP shift by a push of a button. The nice part is you can retrofit the QS4, SFI, etcl to take the new QS!

Good looking bike! Tank grips- Tech Spec fo sho. Much cleaner lines imho. Stomp grip does a great job, but it never looks as nice. Then again, I'm not a racer, which is why I would opt for aesthetics.

If money is no issue, then hell yeah Akro! But the price difference between the Akro and the Hindle is nearly $1,200 (~$900 vs. ~$2,100).

Tech Spec Snakeskin C3 tank grips are installed! We’ve used these on our previous Kwaker and like the grip they provide without digging into your suit. You can also remove and reposition them with the reusable adhesive. Check out more at http://techspec-usa.com (http://techspec-usa.com/)

We went with the Bazzaz QS4 system for our Kawasaki as it’s a stand alone QS since we’ll be reflashing the ECU. We’ll be upgrading to the new “strain” QS when available as this will allow us to adjust the sensitivity as well. http://bazzaz.net/

Fitted a Hindle Evolution Full Exhaust to the ZX6R. Lee Hindle makes some great exhaust and the quality is on par with anyone else in the industry. Install was quick and everything went together smooth. Now we just have to get it up to temp for 15 minutes to let the packing settle in.

Now onto the Rearsets!

Woodcraft again on rearsets. I've had them on almost all of my recent trackbikes.

Woodcraft makes a good product and I like how they sell all the spare parts a reasonable price. But the Vortex are way better IMO. The grip is amazing and I my feet never slip on them like they occasionally do on the woodcraft. I vote Vortex. :)

Looks like it's going to be cool there tomorrow, but clearing up nicely for the weekend. High 60's low 70's on both Saturday and Sunday.

Beyond that PPIR has been doing a TON of work on the track and it looks like they've got the water that used to creep up onto the track surface mitigated! Should be fully awesome!

What are the benefits to those rear sets over stock?

Position adjustability, better pegs, easily replaceable parts, looks, etc. They are almost completely necessary for racing where the lean angles would touch the stock pegs.

I had mixed result with Armour Bodies and I think its due to their packaging. The last set I ordered did not fit overly well and I had to stretch and pull the panels to get everything to align (better). I vote Sharkskins as the gold standard.

My Sharkskins took a beating for sure. I crashed a hand full of times and experienced minor damage and easy to repair. I just liked how much lighter the Armour Bodies were compared to the Skins, but I never crashed on them, so I cant speak for durability.
