So this past Father's Day I grenaded my 2008 R1 on Genesee hill doing 80mph (#2 rod shot up into the stator, through the case).

The piston resting on the crank:

The rod poking through the case, where it shoved the stator out:

The rod, pushing the stator, pushed the cap out about half an inch.

This is all it dropped for such a catastrophic harpooning:

First replacement motor was actually trash (parts of the transmission in the oil pan), but I have no one to blame but myself for relying on the good people on Craigslist.

Second replacement motor appears to be a win (eBay with a motor from Florida with 4300 miles on it and a warranty). The bike has only A&R baffles and a K&N air fliter. This FL motor came with smog block-offs, so that's new. It already idles and revs up/down WAY better than the OEM motor ever did, which is interesting.

Anywho...if anyone knows anyone needing motor parts off of an 07/08 R1 motor, send them my way. I have two that between the two of them, are probably just fine.
