View Full Version : Season Kick-off ride - DATE SET: SUNDAY JUNE 7TH

Sully
Tue May 19th, 2015, 01:30 PM
OK - DATE HAS BEEN DECIDED - JUNE 7TH - n00bs welcome!

(I chose Sunday so a few of us could scout out the route on Saturday to make sure it's clear of sand (as much as can be), debris, construction, etc. )

Let's plan to meet at MoCo - Morrison Conoco around 8:15 - 8:30am, http://www.cosportbikeclub.org/forum...Meet-Locations (http://www.cosportbikeclub.org/forums/showthread.php?38272-Ride-Meet-Locations)

Make sure you gassed up and are ready to go.. bring medications, snack bar, water, RedBull, sunscreen, whatever you need to get you through the day, please bring it with you.

KSU shortly after Pre-ride speech. Depending on participation and level of riding skill, we will break into groups of 5-6. If you are interested in being a ride leader or sweeper,
please let me know in this thread, in a pm or the day of the ride. Thanks in advance.

As in the past, here are a few rules to adhere to:

http://www.cosportbikeclub.org/club/rules.html

Please wear proper gear, which includes:

1) Helmet
2) Jacket (preferably not a jean jacket or hoodie)
3) Full length pants
4) Full-fingered Gloves
5) Boots/Shoes that cover your ankles

A valid driver’s license with an Motorcycle endorsement.
Current registration and stickers on motorcycle license plate

Let's be adults, please... this means, no wheelies, endo's or basically acting like an asshat :mrt:

I've started to map out the route and right now it's looking at about 3 hours (pre-lunch). We will stop for lunch for those who want to eat (please bring ca$h), socialize and make some new riding buddies. You can then break off and do your own thing afterwards or continue with the rest of those who want to keep riding http://www.cosportbikeclub.org/forums/images/smilies/newsmile.gif I hope the route I've chosen is interesting enough for old schoolers and comfortable enough for the n00bs. No worries if you are new to riding, new to the canyons or new to group riding, we will do what we can to help you feel comfortable and keep the ride at a slower pace http://www.cosportbikeclub.org/forums/images/smilies/sm-thumbup.gif http://www.cosportbikeclub.org/forums/images/smilies/newsmile.gif

I would entertain June 13th as well if that works for people. I know we have a LOT of LURKERS on here.. so post up if you are going to show up.. BRING IT! LOLzzz :D

If you are a new rider and are perhaps considering this, please join us. We won't leave anyone behind so you won't have to stress out about that, we will have a special group for riders new to riding, riders new to the canyons and riders new to Colorado.. It's not going to be a sword fight on who can drag knee and elbow the best :vader:

Not sure if I'm stepping up.. but I wanted to put it out there to try and get something organized. I'm going to defer to Jason ON for this :p

and no leader or sweep's for the Noobs which normally we have had 2 slow groups one med and then the where the hell did they go group
Since this is all about Welcome to the canyon season ride. i see more of the people who have sweep'd or leader posting for Sunday just saying

Id be willing to sweep Slow or Med

So true demonrider got sweep position that one time where the guy on the carbed250 could not go very fast i swept back from the group at the junction to make sure they were ok. good thing demonrider knew the path they were about 3 miles back out of sight and sound at least the ride back was more down hill.

I can lead or sweep, if necessary. I also suggest those who are willing to lead or sweep show for the Saturday route ride unless it's a fairly common route. I highly suggest the route be technical and fun for those wishing to push the limits and yet easy enough that noobs and newbies won't be intimidated or even scared.

Also, what's the proposed time-plan for this ride? Lunch and done? All day? Done by four? Lunch and then off to do your own thing?

The roads are looking pretty good. Unless we get some serious gully-washers between now and then, we should be ok. BTW, the weather forecast is looking great for both days. We're still a ways out, but as of now they're calling for sunny and 91 both days.

Give me a break, I'd like to at least know vaguely what the route is. By that logic we should also not share our meeting locations or times... LEO's are going to show up and arrest everyone!

blaircsf
Tue Jun 2nd, 2015, 10:29 AM
I get not sharing the route, makes sense to me. It's possible to post general directions without sharing the route, but that comes down to the individual. Sully also may not want to post it on the off chance they make changes.

As far as Bishops Castle, it depends on where you are coming from and how long of a ride you are looking for. Best bet would be to plug it into to google maps and just see what looks like a good ride.

Thanks for setting this up, Sully!!
Been lurking on this thread for a while & am planning on being there. I can lead or sweep. :ride:

Looking at the weather tho, I'm thinking a sea-doo might be in order. :harrrrr:

Glad to hear, see you there, Bob! :) And I'll take you up on your offer to lead or sweep

We'll be over after our ride for a bbq and pool time - in the rain  :bananna:

Sounds good to me. Post time for The Belmont is ~4:50, and then UFC Fight Night - Hendo vs. Boetsch starts at 6:00.

Friendly reminder for everyone to go through the season start check up on your bike such as tire pressures/condition, brake pad thickness, oil/fluid levels, gear condition, battery condition, chain/sprocket condition, make sure your lights work as well. Don't want people to get stranded over something stupid in the hills and also make sure you have roadside on your insurance just in case, a life saver for about $8/month extra IMO. Any questions please don't hesitate to post up, just want everyone to have a good ride.

Road side is included with AMA membership for no extra cost, along with dozens of vendor and service discounts (gear, lodging, car rental, fairly extensive list). If you care about this two-wheel sport of ours, you should be a member anyway. They represent YOU on many legal matters, access issues, moto discrimination issues, they support racing, insurance matters, E15 fuel , on and on. The monthly magazine is a slick publication and a great read. Only $49 per year. Sign up cuz our sport needs you and we need the AMA.

Great, thanks. Not a new organization. The AMA has been protecting the future of motorcycling and promoting the motorcycle lifestyle since 1924. The road side covers all your vehicles btw, not just your motorcycle.

I have used the tow service when my Mustang was crippled. Paid for the years I have been a member in one shot.

That was a pretty awesome ride today! Great roads, great weather, and great lack-o-traffic (at least for the fast group). Hope everyone else enjoyed it as well.

Also, can we all give a moment of silence for the poor little hummingbird that tragically lost his battle with the front of my bike :(
