The DMV is no help at all. If you do get someone that you can pry an answer out of, they say there is no price difference between the different types of plates for trucks. One friend was told at the DMV that Truck plates were the cheapest, so that's what he got. Another friend was told Rec Truck are the cheapest, so that's what he got. I was told Passenger Vehicle plates were the cheapest and that's what I got on my last truck.

Does anyone know the real story? Are there price differences between the different styles of plates?

Rec. Truck is cheaper than regular truck because they figure you will be on the road less. You also can not use the truck for any business purpose. Licensing a truck as a passenger car is not supposed to happen but it definitely does

Even though it's not supposed to happen, I assume Passenger Vehicle is even cheaper, being that they probably add extra "road" tax for the extra weight of trucks?

I dont know how the costs compare between Rec Truck and passenger. I would guess it would be less but I have no idea how to find out.

Alt link below from another one I used my truck was a 1 ton and my Van was a commercial Vehicle I think Sasha used regular tags on the Bambulance I paid exactly the same for my truck basically is what you use it for if you are using it for daily driving regular tags and the Rec truck is not for daily driving and I if I remember correctly paid less taxes but more fees but could do it for longer or something. Shoot I dont know I am in Missouri and still trying to figure this out here.

Trucks are assessed at 75% of MSRP, passenger vehicles at 85% for owner portion. Looks like the license fee is just based on weight.
