It's that time of year again! For the third year, the Colorado Sportbike Club will be participating in the motorcycle Toy Run to Children's Hospital, sponsored by Rocky Mountain Harley Davidson, on Sunday Dec 7.

This ride grew to over 7,500 people last year! This time we want to make it even larger. Ride registration starts at 8:30 and the ride begins at 10am. As always, CSC members will meet up beforehand for some coffee and to get everyone together, so we can remain as one group amidst the sea of bikes.

The meeting spot will be our south location, the Starbucks at Quebec and County Line Road. To get there, take C-470 to Quebec (it's about a mile west of I-25), and turn North. On the NE corner of the next intersection (Quebec/County Line) you will see a shopping center with a Safeway, the Starbucks is on the east end of this center. There is an Amoco station if you need to gas up as well.

The meeting spot for the ride is at Santa Fe and Mineral; we will get there via 470 to Santa Fe. We will plan to leave Starbucks promptly at 9AM, this will give us plenty of time to get to the staging area, sign in, and mingle a bit/take pictures before the ride begins, and it'll hopefully be a bit warmer by then.

Last year we had quite a turnout from the club, and there is no limit to the number of bikes we can bring, so I hope to see you all there! Remember, bring a toy (unwrapped) for the kids! :)

For more information on the ride, you can visit the official site at:
http://www.rmh-d.com/etc/toy_run.php

See you all there!

 WOW I forgot this was happening! I'm SO surprised! Sounds like fun!

I'm totally there. The best part about it is going to Target in bike gear and buying stuffed animals :D

Some add'l info:

- If it snows, of course we won't be riding, no one wants to be unsafe. However as long as white stuff isn't falling from the sky, we're going.

- It will be cold in the morning, but once you see the bikes, the generosity, and the kids you are helping, I guarantee you will not care. Dress warm!

- Bring cameras!

- Let's meet at Breckenridge Brewery afterwards for lunch, they open at 11. They're a "CSC-friendly" location close to where we will be.

- I am trying to score us free coffee at Starbucks that morning. My sister is a supervisor there, she's checking with her manager tonight and will let me know. Since this is for charity, the chances of it are good.

- Wondering what kind of toy to get? I found this wish list on the Children's Hospital web site:
http://www.thechildrenshospital.org/share/clinicalservices/handout/202_wishlist200203.pdf

Not to sound like a dingey, uncharitable asshole, but I would love to go. What time does it normally end though? I do work in the afternoon that day (scheduled for 17:00)

We'll be done by noon, after that whoever wants to usually goes somewhere close by for some post-ride food and warming up. We tried the Wynkoop I think last time and they didn't want to accept money from a bunch of bikers (long story, it was pretty lame), however if Breck Brewery is open my vote is we go there - they always take care of us.

Ok, Starbucks is giving you all discounted coffee/pastries the morning of the 7th... Here's the catch: You have to pay cash! This is approved by the store manager but not corporate, so we're using a loophole.

To get your discounted coffee, go in and ask for Sarah (she's my sis), tell her you are in the ride. Pay cash. If you hand over plastic, you will pay full price, sorry. I think she's taking off 30%, so toss some coins in the tip jar. ;)

Oops! I goofed... The Starbucks is on the NORTHeast corner of Quebec and County Line, and you should turn NORTH onto Quebec from C-470 (instead of South, like I originally said).

That will teach me to write up directions without my morning coffee first. ;)

(thanks Gary for pointing that out!)

Since I live just down the street from the start, I’ll hook up with everyone there. That will probably be easier said than done - last year there were over 7000 bikes. Do you have any idea how difficult it will be to find a group of ~30 that are sportbikes?

Seriously guys, the ride seems cold until you get there and see an absolute ocean of bikes, every one of them with gifts for sick children on the back. Whether you ride a sportbike or Harley does not matter, everyone puts their differences aside for a morning for a great cause. I would not be surprised to see near 10,000 people there on the 7th. Temperature will be secondary.

You never really get going fast enough on the ride to get cold- wear your normal gear and you'll probably be just fine- there's just not enough speed involved to generate a good wind chill. Last year I wore a sweater under my coat and got too hot. Tunnel vision? Do you need some cold weather pointers? :D

From the RMHD website:

"Because so many sick and injured children look forward to this event, this ride will take place regardless of the weather. If it's too cold, snowy, or slick to ride your motorcycle, get in your car and come anyway!"

Does anyone know if we have to have forms filled out to ride again? I didn't see anything on the RMHD website. Maybe they're not doing the release to save time.

Nick_Ninja
Fri Dec 5th, 2003, 11:04 AM
The HOG chapter sez the release is required ------ but I doubt they will sic the police on yer arse if you don't fill one out. It's out on the HOG site.

Anonymous
Fri Dec 5th, 2003, 11:05 AM
If you don't bring it, they will give you one to sign as you pull in, same as always. Yes you DO have to sign this, it's how they free themselves from liability in case you bin it while on the ride, don't expect to get past them without handing a completed waiver in.

Ralph,

I am having a hard time finding the form we need to sign and bring...will you put the link in here so I can directly get to it...

I think my browser must be incompatible with the RMHD site, because it was all broken up and overlapping images with text...

anyway, I would be most grateful for your help with this!

Because this is sponsored in part by the ROCKY MOUNTAIN HOG organization, and NOT solely by RMHD, they are the ones that are requireing the Release Form.

They are getting A LOT of stuffed animals, and gifts for the younger kids... however, they need more gifts for the older children and encouraged me to bring something for them.

Just thought I would pass this along.

I was going to print some out and bring photocopies to the pre-ride assembly, but I couldn't find it on the RMHD webpage for this year's ride.

I called them and asked where on the website it was. They said it was NOT on the webiste because last year some people were missed :dunno: and this year, everybody will be filling them out at the staging area. :wtf:

I have no idea how that can be faster, but I was told that they have a streamlined process.

I don't know if the form on the RMHOG site will be accepted or not (it probaby will), but it is definatly different from last year's form (http://www.rmh-d.com/pdf/forms/toy_run2002.pdf).

The lady I spoke with offered a few suggestions...

Books, CD's, Movies, Make-up kits (???), puzzles, models...

I am either going to run over to the hobby store and get a model, or to the sporting goods store and get a basketball.

The Chicago Toy Run actually wouldn't accept stuffed animals, and really encouraged sporting goods.

Here is the CHD WISH LIST (http://www.thechildrenshospital.org/share/clinicalservices/handout/202_wishlist200203.pdf)

You will need ADOBE ACROBAT READER DOWNLOAD (http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html) to view the .PDF file containing ALL the info as to what the hospital needs in the way of giftage.

8) :D I took this years parade off to spectate and timed the parade @ 60 minutes of BIKERS!!! AWESOME. I was standing by Peaberry's on Santa-Fe w/ a decent sized crowd,(coffee in hand of course) and my wife daughter & her little friend were all giving the sportbike riders the "hang-loose" wave/sign.

I recognized Nick Ninja,(who seemed to be running late) and Spidey, I'll assume that wheelie was for me & my girls.

Anyhow, nice turn out for sure. Glad ya'll had great wx.It was fun to watch the constant stream of rockets,(the most fun) bikes/trikes/rigs & even a few muscle cars @ the end,(albeit I will resume my more natural position next year)

Great job giving out the hand loose!

There were a few of us "sporters" at the front, in front of the fire truck, so hopefully when they show the parade on the news there will be a few fast bikes caught on tape.

60 minutes of bikes - WOW!!! That is a lot of bikes!!!

great fun, glad we did it this year!

Thanks Ralph and Spidey for getting everything planned for the club.

GREAT ride today everyone! I think in the ride itself we had 50-60 sportbikes, and between 30 and 40 at Breck Brewery.

As always if you have pics you can send them to webmaster@cosportbikeclub.org. I grabbed a bunch as well and will have them sent to Bob shortly.

It was very cool of Starbucks to give the club free coffee this morning as well! Also good of Breckenridge Brewery to hook us up with parking (even if a couple Harley riders couldn't read the large CSC banner they parked directly under...  ) and seating.

Well that was definetly a great ride today. Somehow a small group of us seemed to have cut up to the front of the line which was very sweet to be in the front of such a huge group :D

Also I watched channel 7 news and they showed Heather and I for a brief second in the hospital passing out our presents up on the 6th floor. :P Don't worry I'll be at Brecks on wednesday to sign autographs

Thanx Ralph for getting us the hook up at Starbucks. ;)
