So when I first start my bike it has a rough idle. If its choked, it runs fine until i take the choke off, then its rough again. After I ride it for a few minutes it idles fine. Its at about 22k miles, so its due for a valve clearance check. Could this be the problem, or could it be spark plugs or something like that?

To be honest it just sounds like it isn't warmed up yet. If you ride for a few minutes (til the idle clears) then shut it off then turn it back on is the idle smooth?

It'll be warmed up and still rough. The temp will get up to 130-150, and before I ride it the idle will be rough. Once I start to ride its okay, but if I go somewhere, let it sit for 30-45 minutes, its rough again. Its not really rough, but it used to be a lot smoother.

When was your last tune up? Are your injectors clean? Plugs? The 99 was FI, right?

It is FI. My last tune up was quite a while ago. That's why I was going to take it in to get the valve's adjusted, and was considering the entire service, even though it costs around $500.

Ouch! Besides the valves, what do they give you for $500?

The valves are around 250, and the rest of the service is 250. They do oil, spark plugs, chain cleaned a lubed, all that happy stuff. I could probably do most of what the service is, but I want to make sure I get the valves done.
