On January 29, 2005, a 1954 Oldsmobile F-88 grabbed an all-time record at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, with a winning bid of $3,240,000—including bidder's fees. The General Motors concept car lasted through a fierce bidding war to become the highest selling car ever at the Barrett-Jackson auction, besting a 15-year record of $2 million for a 1932 Hispano-Suiza J12 Binder.

Clinging to the massive Wingate Sandstone cliffs some 100-150 feet above the Dolores River Canyon is a wooden flume which was built between 1889 and 1890. The seven-mile flume and associated ditches delivered 80 million gallons of water per day from the San Miguel River to operate mining equipment at the Lone Tree Place site. Even though the site was only 40 feet above the Dolores River, the technology was not yet available to pump the water directly from the river at the necessary volume and pressure to separate the gold from the gravel.

What was the name/location of the place with the cars? Donna's dad is into hotrods (built a ~36 Ford pickup 'rod) and would get a kick out of that.

You can check it out here. They are booked solid out into the future (motel not museum).

Here is information about the guy who started the whole thing. If you know about the Discovery Channel you might know about him.

That worked out great. The Black Mesa was excellent as usual with the exception of new chip/seal the last five miles or so of the twisties (before Crawford). The west side of McClure just rocks…the most perfect pavement and 15 miles of fast sweepers, and little to no traffic. The east side has new chip/seal and is not nearly as fun. I-70 from Glenwood was not bad…only a couple of short delays due to road work. Montrose to Littleton via this route is 341 miles.

That was an awesome trip. I'm sorry I didn't get to see the Delores river valley with you guys, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

I second the  for McClure pass! We took it on the way back towards Glenwood and it rocked.

Hey Jeffery - So what if we did an Aprilia riders trip in early September (with you leading the way)? Or am I the only one in Colorado on one of these. If thats the case, we could do Italian twins and include the Duc's.

We're planin one:

ZZR 1200
ZX14
CBR XX
Aprilia (you)
Suzuki TLS
Duc 900
Duc 749

That should about cover it don't you think?

(I won't lead --- let the ZX14 take the grief)
