Anyone going for a ride sept, 10? I'm looking for a group of seasoned riders to tag along with.

If you can make it out to morison by 9am or so, I am sure there are others as long as weather permits of course. I have seen several groups come through there, pretty easy to chit chat with them, get a feel of what kind of riding they are going to do, plus you can check out their bike (tires) and get a feel of how they ride as well.

looking at someones tires to see how they ride? You seriously do that? What about people who are running take offs? I don't think I would wanna ride with people who push to the limits on the streets anyhow...
Just because someone can lean the bike to eliminate "chicken strips" or top out their bike in a straight line doesn't mean that they are a smart or safe rider.

I think that's a very legitimate way to get at least a partial feel for the rider. Obviously, just because they obviously have gummed-up race tires on doesn't mean that they didn't just buy take-offs either because they were cheap or just want to look cool. I also look for damaged bodywork. And fur (like the Starboys and other stunter ass-clowns) is a HUGE warning sign.

Besides, isn't checking out the other riders tires' just the sportbikers equivalent of dogs sniffing each other's asses?!?!:D

People running take-offs, that is pretty obvious. It's not a question about pushing it on the street, was just giving him some ideas on what he can look for. Smart and safe riding, well, you can get a little feel by talking to them among other ways....

You have your opinions, I have mine. :)

Comment about what?

That lots of people might not want to ride with you based on your recent actions?

That Bill is a danger to himself and those around him?

That looking at someones tires might give you an idea of their riding ability but probably not a great way to judge someone?

tires mean little to anything. Just trying to find out how much some riders are having to lean on various turns. Some bikes have lower centers of gravity opposed to others. Just because one rider leans more then another it doesn't mean that the rider is the key but the bike...to a degree. Anyways, how did tires get into the mix?

P.S. what are the best tires you guys have used?

Tires... He asked about tires. Can I jack the thread? I would start my own but Bassil's threads get so much more viewing. Anyone have a 180 rear tire with good center tread that is worth mounting. I have some flatland riding to do and just need something that will match the 2000 mile or so I have left on my front pilot power.

You can keep your tire and take mine if you like it. Not sure exacly how much tread is on it or what size it is off hand. I've seen much worse then mine. I've already got a new one ordered and am waiting for it to come in. Might be in tomorrow. Shoot me your # and I'll give you a call as soon as I'm ready to go to the shop

Groan! One of your turns? Get over yourself, man! You sound like the Steven Seagal of motorcycling. Like you can't post anything without some comment assuring others that you're a badass or something. I've found over the years the fastest guys are just like the toughest guys. They don't have anything to prove, and they don't need to talk about it.

Is it a self-esteem problem?:dunno:

I have the M1's on the TLR, it is my first experience with metzlers and they came highly recomended by a number of liter bike riders. I have liked them so far (though I don't push that bike I don't think), and I think I too will go with the M3's next.
I am not a fan of the Pilots...I have only ridden on them once (on a track, someone elses bike) and I almost highsided twice, so I am a little leery of them. I loved the D218's I put on the gixxer last summer though.

Why? They are a very high quality tire.

Sarcasm my good fellow. My buddys Frank and Perry like 'em. I originally bought the M1's because although they gave up the teensiest bit of speed in track testing, the articles I read said the Pilots were downright scary when cold, and took a lot longer to warm up, and that the "edge" was very unpredictable. The M1's warmed up a lot faster, and although didn't have quite (few hundredths from what I remember) the performance, the larger majority of people went faster and felt more comfortable on them. Knowing the cold I rode in here, it seemed the better choice. And, I'll have to say from my one track day at least, they were VERY predictable sliding around, and didn't change once they got to a certain point after a couple of laps at IMI.

When the time comes, I'll see if I can't find some comparisons and make my decision.

The pilots do take a while to warm up, but it’s nothing substantial, unless you’re on the track. However, I like the way they feel when I'm using the edges. They feel tight and strong when it comes to counter steering esp. if you just so happen to hit a little bit of gravel (not too much!!). You can come upon the same conclusion I did by means of finding a spot with a little bit of gravel and hold your tire on top of it then accelerate fast. If it grabs (which the pilots seem to do) then you’ll know which tires work best for you.

In contrast I haven't had the opportunity to try the M1's on my bike, so I really can't say which is best. Looks like I'll have to do more reading on which tires are best.

I have always loved the diablo's but the TLR I just purchaced it came with the dunlop Qualifier after 2 canyon rides I'm starting to really like this tire, it heats up pretty fast and feels like a lot of rubber or footprint in the turns, we'll see how long they will last though

Eddie at Performance told me both the Michelins and Metzler M-3's are great performance tires. He said the M-3's will give some warning before "going away" ,but the Michelin's will can be pushed a little further, but give no warning. He also said for competition the Michelin's can be pushed a little further.
