Wed Oct 11th, 2006, 11:00 PM
Updated, Friday, Octobet 13, 2006, 10:00 a.m.

Several riders have been asking for a nice End-of-Season run. We'll be leaving from the Morrison Conoco at around 9:15 a.m. Saturday, October 14, 2006. The weather looks to be sunny and in the 60's:). But hey, always be prepared. Don' forget to let your tire get up to cornering temperature before you try to look like "knee dragger". Cold tire, asphalt= not a good combo.

We'll plan on going up CO 74 to Kittredge and then over to Indian Hills along Myers Gulch and Parmalee Gulch. Next south on Hwy 287 to Pine Junction (gas up here) and then Rd 126 down Horsepower Hill to Deckers. From there we will go south on Hwy 67 through Westcreek and on to Woodland Park (Gas here). A short ride on US 24 over to Ute Pass, elevation 9,165, and we shall get back on Hwy 67 to Cripple Creek for lunch. Rd. 1 (gas here) will take us out of Cripple Creek to High Park Road and Rds 59/102/112. We'll loop some of these scenic roads around to Guffey and then take Hwy 9 south to US 50.

Cripple Creek:

http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Eusgenweb/co/custer/postcards/sangre.jpg It'll be a short run over to Canyon City (gas here)where we will take a run up and over Skyline Drive. For those of you that have not ridden on Skyline, this is one of the more interesting rides on the Front-Range. The road is a one-way that runs along the top of a mountain-like walking a high wire.

Skyline Drive:

http://www.skyvalleymotel.com/skyline.JPGPhoto from Sky Valley Motel
From Canyon City we'll take US 50 east to State 115. 115 will take us along the backside of Ft. Carson. After a short jaunt up I-25 through Co Springs (gas here) we'll hook up with CO 83 via MM 153/Interquest Parkway and then ride through Black Forest up to Russellville Road.
http://www.westrian.com/jr/images/Russellville%20Road.jpg

We've got a nice little jaunt off of Russellville that you'll want to remember for your winter "twistie" runs. For those of you that live on the east side of town near Parker this will be a good place to break off and head home. The rest of us will keep heading north/west and call it a damn good day's ride. We'll be getting home around dinner time.

Updated: I have contacted the Colorado State Patrol and they say that it is ok for us to travel through from Deckers to Woodland park. A Pilot Car is in use and runs are made every 30 minutes or so. This will mean that we will have a roadside delay but it is a much better route . Hwy 67 allows us through Westcreek. This route would take us from US 285 at Pine to Horsepower Hill/Deckers then Hwy 67 to Woodland Park. This is the area that was washed out from a heavy rain on July 6th.

Please note: If, for some reason, the highway dept or State Patrol won't let us through (emergency,etc)... then we'll go back up to Pine Junction and head over to Fairplay and take Hwy 9 the back way into Guffey.

This is a good run and several of us have done it a time or two this year. Not much traffic/bicycles to contend with.

See you there.

hmmmm.. I have been requested in Colorado Springs this weekend, I said probably can, didn't say how I was gonna get there :)

So, *if* I can ride, I will be dropping off just before 83.

w000t!

We gotta figure out how to make like GoogleMaps of our planned routes (when they are pre-planed as such) with like little pin marks for stopping points / fueling points.

Bandit,
You can easily get there by going N on I-25. Go W on C-470. Follow it around the city toward the foothills. It will then bend north. After the Hwy 285 exits you pass two lakes on your right (east). The next exit is the Morrison exit. Get off here and drive under the overpass. The gas station is just on the other side of the overpass. This is also the main entrance to Bandemere Speedway, if you know where that is.

See you in the a.m.

Hey, did you all ride the new section of 67 from Deckers to West Creek, and if so, did you have to wait for escort? The wait wasn't bad. The pilot car ran every 30 minutes. Instead of taking a break at Deckers and then waiting agian at Westcreek, we just road straight through to Westcreek on Hwy 67. On Sundays, there is no pilot car, as there is no construction. Ir was nice to ride from Deckers to Woodland Park and beyond.:)

Post Script: Be aware the signs do say "Road Closed" "Local Traffic Only"

Pilot, thanks for the ride. I ended up following the wrong group out of Cripple Creek so I missed the end. I also ended up hitting a bolt in the road and ruined my pilot power with only 1500 miles on it :( so I wish I would've stuck around. Can't wait to see that group shot and let me know if you want me to cut something together with that footage and upload it.

Thanks for the wonderful ride, hope I wasn't too slow there at the end. I have pretty good upstream bandwidth as well, so if you need me to upload anything, let me know. I rode up thru Palmer Lake, Sedalia, Castle Rock and Franktown (and back to the springs) with my brother and his friend, and on the way back to Denver I hit up Russleville road. I thought I was on the wrong road at first, but it shapped up pretty nice for an "east of I25" road :)

brian, thanks for taking on the editing work. I understand that it is a lot to do. Most folks think this stuff just comes out by magic. we take a picture/video and magically, the day after the ride, folks expect it to appear uploaded to the net.

It didn't seem like the entire video did play. At least, there was more to the ride than was in the vid. Actually, I don't think that the video even made it to Cripple Creek.

Yeah, I talked to a few other people and there is a problem with the site as the video is 24 minutes long. I put a bunch of the slow section in to show all of the bikes since it was the best chance to see them all, It probably is a little long but it didn't seem that way at the time as I was working through six hours of video so it's relativeley short:) I turned the logo red everytime I altered the speed so you can see most of it was real time, the next step is to put it on DVD's so you all can check out a full-res version at home if you're interested. Glad you enjoyed it.

that there be the new titanium body cam. makes for a great crash peg. I'm sure that a few good cameras went the way of the bone yard on a few race movies...

That looks like an awful expensive frame slider :p I think I'd try to mount it behind the widshield or something (gas tank?) to also protect it from rocks/bugs/etc.

I am interested in the DVD, where will you be next (Brecks?) I can bring blank DVD media (-R is all I have) or $

Yeah it's a bit pricey, a VX2000 Sony 3-chip that originally retailed for about $3,000 so I'd call it an expensive frame slider:) That mount is more for a movie I'm shooting next year and there'll be an $8,000 1080p frame slider for that. I'm not sure what get together I'll be at next but I'll try and bring a few copies with me or I'll be in my studio which is near Colfax and Wadsworth from 10:00am til probably 9:00pm on Thursday. Shoot me a pm if you can't wait to see the full-res version on DVD and I'll give you directions. Here's the mount I'll probably use on the next big ride...

That grinding sound was my boot, but it does make the camera feel even lower. A little behind the scenes trick.
