Yeah, people pay me to work on their suspension. I'm not cruising for work (it's too freakin' cold outside!), just wanting to share some pictures of interesting things and spark some discussion.

And I'd like to take your fork apart and take some pictures. Then, when it's warm again, get the whole suspension working really well based on stock parts- maybe just with different shim stacks- small, affordable changes- so people can have nice suspension without having to spend a fortune.

Well, it's not like the stock stuff (for the most part) is junk... What seems to be the case is that the aftermarket stuff has more of an adjustment range- so internally it doesn't have to be as close to ideal to start with. On a serious note, I need to get my 250X suspension sorted out for supermoto. I haven't done much, but I am starting to push it to where there is chatter in the front end. Maybe someday we should get together and discuss things over beer and money?

Yes, he is a local guy. He rode the MRA years ago (like '94 or '95 was the last one). His name is Geoff and he was out there when Eric broke his leg. I didn't go out last time you all rode, so I don't know if he was there. He rides the #85 yamaha.

No, this is good- the whole reason I brought it up is because I get sick of people that think they're too good to stop and explain stuff. I'm no smarter than anyone, I've just been thinking about this stuff for a while...
So, a progressive shimstack is one that provides more damping as more fluid is trying to push through it, that is... you hit a bigger bump so the suspension is compressing faster... Or, for rebound, the suspension is more compressed (for whatever reason- you were on the brakes harder or landed from a big jump), so the spring is more compressed, so the spring is pushing back harder and trying to extend the suspension faster, and thus trying to pull more oil through the piston/shimstack.
Digressive, on the other hand, is just the opposite. The more oil you try to flow, the more the shimstack opens.
Does that make sense?
Damn, too technical for me. I just go out and ride. I believe my sumo suspension is set up for dirt still!!!!!! So soft and cush.

Sorry Dave, I did not pick it up for you. I think I remember asking someone if you had left it but someone at the track stated that it was one of the chairs that just sit around at the track for people to use. I would have kept it for you if I had known it was yours. Shit, it still may be there, maybe a little warped due to the weather.
