    Shoei RF-1000

What do you guys think about the Shoei RF-1000 Nerve? I found a place online where I can get it for $299!! I am needing a helmet that is quiet as my current HJC is rather loud with wind noise on the highway. The link is, http://www.compacc.com/prod.cfm/cid/9001000/pid/8525

Let me know what you guys think or what other helmets you would suggest. Again I would like a helmet that is really quiet on the highway, but I need to stay around $350 or less.

    Re: Shoei RF-1000

I'm a big Shoei fan and have crash tested a couple of them at the track with good results. (Some differ from my opinion, but the doc tells me there was no more brain damage after the crash than what I started with).

Anyways, the good: They fit me great, they are light, aerodynamics are really good (they don't lift or buffet much) and the ventilate well.

The RF series is pretty quiet, but there is a big trade off between good ventilation and how quiet a helmet is. I've not owned an HJC, so I can't compare. That being said...I always wear earplugs on the bike, no matter how quiet the helmet is. Wind noise is in a critical range for hearing and that it's a constant is VERY bad for your ears. Plugs are cheap insurance.

Now, for those who say they can't hear traffic with plugs in, I'll offer that I can actuall hear OTHER sounds better when I wear the earplugs because it doesn't get drown out by the wind noise. I can certainly hear my bike's engine better....

to each their own, if the Shoei fits, wear it.

I disliked my rf-900 enough that i will not buy another shoei.

The shoei rep for denver tried to get me to test out the rf-1000 and i told him where to stick it.

    Re: Shoei RF-1000

Does anybody happen to have an RF-1000 in a Large size that they wouldn't mind letting me take for a quick ride to see if I like it. That's my biggest fear is that I'll spend $299 on the helmet, then get it and it's no better for noise reduction than my HJC.

RYBO, thanks for the info. I've always heard good things about Shoei, that's why I was shocked to see the price this place was selling them for.

Suki, I just went to that motorcycle accessories liquidation place on Santa Fe, they have the RF-1000 for like $250+tax. They also have a lot of other helmets there. I'll probably go there this weekend to get mine.

    Re: Shoei RF-1000

I love my RF-1000 but it is loud! my buddy has a CL-12 and it is much quieter than the RF-1000. I love that helmet but since I dont ride on the street anymore it doesnt make much of a difference as to how quiet it is. Great helmet but not the best for a quiet highway ride.

    Very nice lid
Best venting lid I've ever had too
I crash tested mine and it held up well but I rang my bell hard and the lid didnt look that bad. My memory was like 8 min long for a good two and half hours.
I loved the fit though it was really comfy and I guess I gotta wierd shaped dome.
The only model shoei better then the 1000 is the x-11
