Is this Cold tearing on a street tire?

    what causes this?
I dont lock the rear up and slide it I dont really use rear that much.
I have spun the rear up a few times but not recently.
I did notice the rear skatin around Sunday but most of that I thought was sand.
This was only 3-4 in long when I first saw it on fri night and it has grown to almost half way around and it looks like in one spot there is a bubble about to tear.
I've seen race tires do this but havent seen a street tire do it before.
I know its smoked and time for a new one and not to ride on it anymore unless I wanna risk something bad happening and I think I'll pass on that good time.

Agree with Dana, that's just a tire that's worn out in the center.

Cold tearing typically is across the direction of travel and it literally looks like the rubber is torn apart (because is is) you'd have a VERY hard time getting a tire to do that under any street riding conditions.

The cause of the wear you have is 1) lots of highway riding in a straight line 2) spinning the rear wheel or 3) locking the rear brake. Any of these things in combination would also cause the wear you're seeing.

race tires dont do that unless a squid buys a set of take-offs and does burnouts till the cords in the center are showing
