Open to suggestions, just nothing that will take 6 hours to ride because noob's are not going to last that long. Like 2 hrs to a lunch stop, 2 hrs back max, with some stops in between.

Re: 3rd Annual Newb Ride - Sunday May 13th (new condensed thread)

    UPDATE

The exit for Morrison will be closed this weekend. However, you can still access it from Morrison Road. I still want this to be the rally point.

    ROUTE

    1. We go up Evergreen, over to 285, down Deckers to Woodland Park, eat at the Casino, loop on back

    2. Up Evergreen, over Squaw Pass to Echo Lake, Down to Central City, Peak to Peak, eat in Estes, down 7

    3. Same route as last year, Up and then over to 285, off to Breckenridge, etc.

We can discuss the morning also to take in account road conditions, etc. since SAFETY IS THE #1 PRIORITY ON THIS RIDE!

There are a lot of routes we can choose, that way if groups want to split off at noon they can do so, if you want to ride the whole day we can do that too!

Re: 3rd Annual Newb Ride - Sunday May 13th (new condensed thread)

Since we're meeting in Morrison, my vote is:
    C-470 to Wadsworth
South on S Platte Canyon Rd to Waterton Rd
East on Waterton Rd to Rampart Range Rd
North on Rampart Range Rd (becoomes Titan Rd)
Follow Titan Rd to Hwy 85 (Santa Fe)
    85 South to Sedalia
    SW on 67 to 105
105 to Palmer lake for lunch.

Return can either be reverse of the above (my choice), or east to 85, north to Parker, west on Lincoln to I-25, short stretch on I-25 to C-470, then back to Morrison?

Edit: Just saw that DK posted route options. Nonetheless, I'll leave this up here as an option. Remember, this is a NEWB ride.

Re: 3rd Annual Newb Ride - Sunday May 13th (new condensed thread)

Though I do like Hwy 74, Squaw Pass, Echo lake & al (with lunch in Idaho Springs), there are parts that are too technical for a Newb ride, plus the amount of traffic that 74 sees will create a logistical nightmare trying to keep even small groups together. I say we keep it simple and to ensure that everybody has a good time.

Re: 3rd Annual Newb Ride - Sunday May 13th (new condensed thread)

I'm just not wild (at all) about a noob ride down 105 and then back up 83, it turns into a drag race and I would likely bow out of it at Palmer if that was the return route as I have no desire to be a part of that. If we reversed at Palmer it might work...

I'm not opposed to a mountain ride just because it should be quite warm this weekend, though it can get chilly "up there". I actually kind of liked the route last year, it was scenic and not too technical; the ride down the hill towards Fairplay has potential for squidliness, but I think with some good pre-ride coaching it should be fine. I'd also be up for going into Estes via P2P just because I haven't done that in about 2 years...

    I say we go this route;
    C-470 to I-25
I-25 south to springs, the kicker is everyone has to be up on one wheel or we kick you off your bike. Baptism by fire huh?
    No not so much

My vote is Estes via P2P.

Eat in Estes and maybe split at estes for the northern/southern crew. Northern heads along 7 back through longmont...southern? I'm not sure, but there are 10 possible routes from there.

I have to disagree 100%. I have led more than 1 newb ride on this loop and NEVER had an issue with drag racing. Hell, Scott and I took a newb on this route a few weeks ago and it was great. If that is the only argument for not taking this route it is a poor argument. These are new riders and will follow the lead of a GOOD trip leader. Can't you guys remember what it was like to be a damn new rider? Man this is frustrating.

I have let you guys know what I think about taking a large group of new riders up through the canyons. I think it is utterly stupid. Ejoy your ride.

Re: 3rd Annual Newb Ride - Sunday May 13th (new condensed thread)

    Dana,

P2P isn't that technical, it's a pretty mellow ride with wide sweeping corners that you can see around, so I don't see your beef with it.

I agree that the 105/83 is a great newb ride, but think the P2P can be a great ride in this area as well.

Re: 3rd Annual Newb Ride - Sunday May 13th (new condensed thread)

    Scott,

I don't have beef with the entire route. I have issue with some of the roads getting there and comming back. My other issue is with the attitude of this ride. It does not seem like it is really for the new riders but more for the enjoyment of the others. I know how safe you guys are. I trust you all. I just do not trust the judgement of every new rider that will be going out with you guys. You know I am an verly cautious rider. I am projecting my concerns hoping you will pick them up.

Re: 3rd Annual Newb Ride - Sunday May 13th (new condensed thread)

    I hear you Dana.

It will be very easy for me to talk to new riders about getting in over your head this week. Hell, I did it and I've been riding for a long time. The only good news on my end is I chose an apporpriate place to push the limits. That place is NOT the street in any circumstance.

Thanks for your voice on this one, like you said in one of your earlier posts a good ride leader will keep the whole crew in check.

Re: 3rd Annual Newb Ride - Sunday May 13th (new condensed thread)

    Dana,
I agree with you, and your absoloutly correct that proper attention to what this ride is intended for is made clear before the ride starts. Last year with 60+ bikes things went smooth with a pre-ride sermon from Reverend Ralph and clergy man Nick Ninja. Everyone rode their own pace that was controlled by the group leader, and the sweepers did a good job keeping things in check.

The only thing I heard of was 1 speeding ticket, and 1 *minor* lowside on gravel coming into a gas station.

I can't say it enough but RIDE YOUR OWN PACE! You won't get left behind or shamed, this ride's for the benifit of CSC's newer riding members
